Conservatives believe you have it too good and that makes you lazy. They promise to make life harder as a way of motivating you to work more.
My son got $150/mo for SNAP. His SSDI got raised by $75/mo so they reduced his SNAP by $75. Not sure what it is down to now after the new increase.
Every time I get an increase in SSDI, for the cost of living adjustment, my SNAP benefits decrease. It's like you can't win for losing.
Good luck! I hope you come through the next 4 years in good shape.
Encourage employment? Do these people think you can somehow live off snap? It doesn't pay for rent, transportation, cooking utensils, napkins, toilet paper... Anything bit uncooked foods. If you want to cut the money needed for snap, increase minimum wage so they make enough money to pay living expenses while working.
They want you to get a 2nd job, they want you working one extra shift whenever you can.
You work three jobs? Uniquely American, isn't it? I mean, that is fantastic that you're doing that."
To a divorced mother of three, Omaha, Nebraska, Feb. 4, 2005
He said that 20 fucking years ago, and the qons have not changed since. America, where you can work your fingers to the bone to get by, isn't that a beautiful thing?
Their dream American is a 28 year old, married with 3 children, with a car lease, and no savings in their bank account.
He wakes up at 4am each day to drive an hour and a half to start his shift at the widget company, he clocks out at 3 to pick up his kids and eats a quick meal before heading to his 2nd job at McGuffin's where he will work until 9 before heading home to sleep.
This is their ideal person, someone who can't take a single day off or have a moment to themselves without crushing financial consequences. Who must constantly be working and generating value for their employer.
Obedient. Workers.

I don't know if the Republicans have any idea of how to deal with what is coming when it comes to the job market. If software eats the world, AI will eat software...and even all the "good" jobs will soon be scarce to nil - turns out even the "creative" jobs can and will be automated. As expected, the C-suite stuff could be some of the easiest stuff to automate, but that's not where they are going to start eliminating jobs, as you can well imagine. I think some people - myself included - thought that things like trucking and mining would be reduced to basically zero jobs first. But they are shooting for things like writers, animators, software developers, basic lawyer stuff, tax preparation, and it's quite possible those jobs will be most impacted first. So telling your kids to level up on skills? Well, you can fuck right off with any of those skills unless you have a massive pile of money, too.
How are we going to determine how to distribute all the wealth being created when jobs are increasingly going to disappear? We have been playing musical chairs all this time and now the music stops, and it just means that more and more wealth is accrued by dipshits like Elon, while everyone else is kicked harder?
I wonder how long the broligarchs really think that will last? These assholes are building bunkers for a reason, and it's because they know full well the guillotines are going to come out if this reaches what looks to be an obvious conclusion.
