non English speakers (or language barriers in general) get a +10 in humor I swear. It's SO FUNNY to see someone know what they want to say but not be able to communicate correctly.

My sister went to Greece for a study abroad thing for a few months and one day someone accidentally broke her sunglasses but they didn't know how to apologize so he just kinda pointed and flapped his hands ๐Ÿ˜ญ
She said "it's ok 3 euro 3 euro" along with some thumbs up and stuff to show that she doesn't really care about them as they were getting old anyways. The guy tried to apologize more than turned to his buddy and started talking and all my sister could understand was "whe38sjsh cheap Chinese garbage sueus8hennshs" because I guess he didn't know the word for it in his language or something ๐Ÿ˜‚
The best part is, I'm sure from his side she is also the one who can't talk because she doesn't know Greek.

Also every time she crossed the street for the first week she would do the little 'hand wave thing' Americans do (actually I didn't know I did it until she told this story) to thank drivers but APPARENTLY that's seen as worse than the middle finger over there and understandably nobody thought to tell the students about their equivalent of the middle finger. So one day when she was walking with someone from Greece they asked her why she was being so rude to drivers and my sister felt really bad afterwards

Wait waving like waving hello ๐Ÿ‘‹ is a rude gesture there? What does it mean?

Opening your hand in front of the face of somebody is considered very rude and it is like saying "fuck you".

A Wikipedia article about this

I am not sure if you mean that though. And no the waving gesture is not considered rude at all.

A thank you wave in USA is an open hand ๐Ÿ‘‹ and very subtle to no shake. I can see how it would look like the insulting gesture.

Thanks!

For her defense, doing anything is somehow rude in Greek
