I'm upgrading from a 4770 to a 9600. This is my budget free living room PC build. I'm trying to keep everything even bottleneck wise.

Helldovers is starting to chug like I put water in my cars gas tank. My Gtx1060 is...old.

What GPU should I upgrade to? I was looking at 2080s for around $200.

Does anyone have any better ideas?

I was looking at the RTX 5090 listings on NewEgg and the last picture (7/7) on this MSI card is a thing I don't recognize. Anyone know what it is?

So, I had some issues with installing the GPU in the case, and the GPU bottom (those metals things at the bottom) ended up scratching part of the motherboard. From what I can tell, there's a bunch of similar components all the way up, so I'd think there's redundancy, so I guess it's not that important. Here is a picture:

PC boots fine into bios, fans work, stuff are recognized, mouse and keyboard also works, but I haven't really done much beyond that.

Should I get a new motherboard?

I'm planning to replace my RTX3080 here with something like that. Linux user also, and would like to not bother with Nvidia drivers too.

Update: was hoping for a higher "tier" but I guess it will have to do. Will wait a little until Linux drivers are OK. Or ifthere's a good deal ok the 7900XT/X

I recently bought a 7600XT so I have AMD's Adrenaline. Now when I play Ghost Recon Breakpoint. According to AMD's software I'm getting between 290 to 310 FPS.

But when I play Breakpoint, the in game FPS counter says only between 90 to 100 FPS. So,

1. Why the Discrepancy? and
2. Which one is right?

I built my PC back in 2019. I am still using the same CPU : i7 8700k. I have upgraded my GPU to an rtx 3070. I play only GPU heavy games in 4k usually with DLSS. I'm able to run most games in an acceptable framerate, 50-60fps. I would say my frame times could be better tho. I dont run any CPU heavy applications, but i have noticed that with these latest AAA games it takes forever to compile the shaders. My CPU is pretty outdated at this point, and I'm wondering if it would even be worth upgrading considering my use case and that I am mostly happy with my gaming performance. Oh and I run Linux if that makes a difference.

The next logical step of the current GPU development

I recently picked out a 32in QHD monitor to pair with two 27in QHDs for a triple-monitor setup. After using the 27in QHDs for a few years I decided the pixel density was a bit too high for comfort so I decided to upgrade my primary to a 32in.

Both of my QHD screens are IPS monitors with 178 degree viewing angles, so I made sure the 32in monitor I picked was an IPS screen with a 178 (or higher) viewing angle. With a little color correction everything should look the same, but wow, this monitor really looks different.

When looking at the monitor straight-on from ~2 feet away the sides of the screen are dark. The best way I can exaggerate this is if I fill the screen with white and move my head side to side. The "bright" part of the screen stays straight in front of me and the rest of the monitor gets darker as it gets further away.

My other two monitors don't do this. I can tilt both of them to an extreme angle before they start to appear dark. I don't understand what is different about this monitor that makes it this way. The darkening is so extreme that, if the screen is filled with solid white, the edges of the screen appear "shimmery" as the angle from my left eye is getting a darker/brighter image than my right eye.

I thought maybe it was the "screen surface finish" but my two 27in monitors are "matte" and "glossy," the new 32in is "glossy." All three are IPS displays. All three boast a 178 degree viewing angle. Reviews for the 32in talk about how it looks great and I don't understand how people can stand this. It feels like an old LCD TV, not a gaming LED monitor.

Does anyone know what attribute I need to look for?

Hi guys, I bought a cheap LGA 1155 MB with Intel H61 chipset to build a home server but I can't find any power management or AC option to make the PC restart after a power shortage. The BIOS is a American Megatrends 2.15.36. O went through all the menus, the manual shows an option that is not present anywhere. I went to my parents house for the holidays and, guess what? Power went down in my house. Now I'm 300km away from the power button and all my media, music and files are unavailable.

TLDR: does anyone know if I can have access to power management options if I update this machine bios? I'm on Linux, so another complexity layer to update the bios.. Is it worth the trial, after holydays of course?

As an owner of an A770, I thought I would give prospective buyers my experience with it.

I originally bought it because I was dissatisfied with the performance of my 6600XT. At the time I played alot of Arma 3, which is a horribly optimized. It would run horribly on the card. And performance wasn't much better in other games as well.

Simply put 8GB of VRAM is simply not enough nowadays. So My personal recommendation is minimum 12GB. (Full Disclaimer: I later found a BIOS setting that was holding back the 6600XT, but the performance in game was a little better, but not by much.)

Once I bought the card and installed it. It ran like a dream. Performance in Arma 3 was much better. and I had no problems. I should mention at this point that I bought this card long after Intel got their drivers properly sorted.

I ran every game I had in my library. I have alot of games from both steam and GOG. And the oldest one, X-wing tie fighter, off of steam ran no problem.

But!

Here are the problems I ran into.

I enjoy racing games. And i have triple 40 inch monitors for that. Now one game I absolutely love is Forza Horizon 5. I was able to run it in triple monitor mode no problem with the 6600 XT. And at first I was able to do so as well with the A770, at 60Hz, the refresh rate of my monitors.

But then they updated their drivers and everything went to shit.

Forza would only output to one monitor even though it showed up as being in triple monitor mode. Now Technically Forza 5 doesn't officially offer triple monitor support. But there are work arounds that other people used to get it working for them. I tried those but they didn't work for me. So I would occasionally play Forza but didn't like only using one screen, so my usage dropped off.

Also for some reason the combined monitors would output to 59.96Hz leading me to get headaches after long play times.

Another game I enjoyed playing in triple monitor mode, is Ghost Recon Breakpoint. But after the driver update it would still output to 48:9 but it was stretching a 16:9 image to do so.

So basically all the problems I encountered is software based. The hardware is excellent, but the software reminds me of AMD when they were still known as ATI.

So intel is the new AMD. for both the good and the bad.

Now. Onto the software.

You can tell Intels graphics software were designed by engineers, because it is remarkably in depth and overly complicated.

With AMD, getting into triple monitor mode is a simple one button press operation. One and done.

Here's what you have to do to get triple monitors running with Intel for the first time

First you go into the software trying to find the way to get triple monitors working.

Can't find it so you do some googling.

Find out you have to download ANOTHER piece of software. You do so.

You open said software. Find no instructions on how to do so.

do more googling.

After sifting through a couple of scam videos on youtube you finally find one that describes what you have to do with frustratingly level of nonchalantness. Figure the rest out yourself.

Find out, after sort of getting it to work, you then have to manually align the monitors. Takes multiple attempts to get it right. But finally manage to do so.

Realize the next time you try to get into triple monitor mode you have to do it all over again.

Rinse and repeat.

So. Conclusions.

I think intel will be a force to rekon with once they get the software side of things down pat. But TBH I would do some serious consideration before buying the new card right now.

Intel Arc was Pat Gelsingers baby and with him out the door, I don't know if Intel plans to keep the Arc line alive. It would be shitty, but perfectly Intel to have a product people like only to kill it due to short term considerations.

I now have a 6700XT 16GB model. And while it's miles better than the 6600XT, I find that to me personally it feeling like the A770 slightly outperforms it. Even though on paper the 7600XT is supposedly 15% faster. And apparently the B580 outperforms The A770. So make of that what you will.

Today I was testing the RAM of a friend in my PC and since I had it opened up anyway, I thought I could renew my thermal paste as well. When removing the block from the CPU, I saw this:

To me, this looks like corrosion. The AiO is roughly 6 years old, so it's nearing its end of life anyway, but is that normal? Should I still use this?

I am going to buy myself a new video card for Christmas. When I look online I see that XFX is usually the best priced card. Are they a good company? Are their cards made well? How about their warrantee service?

Hi there, am looking for a new and powerful laptop that can handle music production quite well, but am not sure what to get. So far I've understood that its important for this laptop to have:

• 32GB RAM (DDR5 preferably)
• Top-notch processor
• Good graphic card
• at least 1TB of SSD Storage, planning on buying external ssd later.

Anyone have any good recommendations for this? The budget is around 2,250 USD / 2,137 EUR.

Coming from an 8700K so will be interesting to see how Assetto Corsa and Path of Exile do with the significant cpu upgrade.

Cooler didn't arrive until after dinner. If I were twenty years younger I'd have stayed up all night. 😆

As I suspect a lot of people are doing, I'm going to keep using my existing graphics card until RTX 5000 series drops in January. Everything else is new, though. First build in seven years.

I have a Naga Hex 2, which I really like. It recently lost sensitivity to horizontal movement. If I move the mouse slowly, the cursor doesn't move. Moving the mouse fairly quickly, however works fine. Vertically it works as expected as well. I've had something similar happen to other mice in the past (different computers, etc.)

Is this common? Is the mouse broken? Has this happened to anyone else?
