Context : when i go to a restaurant or a party or anything i have always felt that there should be a culture to clean our own plate like if i just tried to do that at a party or in a restuarant people would think i am weird and the staff will stop me . Like i always thought that cleaning other peoples plate was kinda degrading as in i wouldn't like to do that myself . So i am think that whole culture should change . This is the reason i kinda prefer takeouts . What are your thoughts on this ? (Disclaimer : I do not work in the food industry it is just my opinion and i am sure some people who work there would agree) .

Edit : i am not implying these kinda jobs are degrading but when the consumer is perfectly healthy and capable and is just demanding this service because they are paying and the food industry workers have to do it is kinda degrading atleast in my eyes.

EDIT : Also i am not implying the servers don't have to do anything i am saying the customer should deploy the waste in the basket and give it a little rinse under the water with some soap . Ofcourse the staff still should clean it for food safety . And maybe the price could be a little lower not by much because you still pay the same for in restaurant dining and take away.

YouTube is my vice. I spend hours and hours and hours there watching videos every single day. I've recently however starting to resent the fact that apparently I seem to prefer watching other people do stuff rather than do that myself. Watching interesting videos feels like a leisure but doing interesting stuff has somehow in my mind turned into work.

Just few days ago I watched a Casey Neistat studio tour and I caught myself thinking how nice it would be to have a neatly organized space like that for making stuff. Well I have a space like that! I'm just never there because instead I'm in the house watching YouTube. I hate that. When I was younger I took apart solar lanterns to build a solar battery charger, I made a camera gimball stabilizer out of threaded rod, angle irons and plumbing pipe, I build a functioning submarine out of legos. Now I can't even remember when I last time build something just for fun.

While watching youtube is "fun" aswell however it's not memorable. I still remember my lego submarine from 20 years ago but I don't remember a single video I watched yesterday. I'm worried that if I keep doing this I'm basically just throwing my life away. There's always going to be another video to watch. I will never finish that project.

I guess I'm just venting. I'm sure there are people that can relate however. How do you guys deal with this?

I accidentally watched some youtube shorts and algorithm pushed a ahort about elon and then some shorts about tate . The comment section was acting like they were gods among men and everyone was wanting to be like them or praising them or wanting to follow them .etc . Do they only know who these people are from shit like shorts or reels and not anything else ? I think most of em are teenage boys . It was kinda disturbing anyway what are your thoughts ?

I have some free time and wanted to help whoever may need what I can do. I like messing with graphics, logos, short videos etc. I am not a professional, but what i do, often works for most.

If you need help with logos, graphics, intros/outros, renders, drop me a message and we can possibly figure something out. It's on a pay what you can basis, and free is also an option if you can't afford to pay anything

Especially those that have either never gotten a video game adaptation or are underrepresented in video games. For me, I would love to see Gambit game. The X-Men series as a whole (independent from the larger Marvel comic book universe) has a lot material for a video game. Yes, there has X-Men games in the past but I want to see solo Gambit game; in style of Arkham Knight. But that's just my idea. What are some of yours?

They say to err is human. We can be caught off-guard in a number of different ways as accidents seem to be able to spring up from anything. However, some of the things we mention as accidents often inspire question marks in peoples' head as they don't come off as things that couldn't arise as intentional, for one reason or another. A lot of those old "what would you do if you accidentally ____" anime memes come to mind.

The other day, someone was talking about accidentally showing up for church taking off their outerwear (it's etiquette to not wear that while in church) only to realize afterward they forgot to put on a shirt, which meant they realized they were bare. People seemed amazed that this could be "a slip" but then it would seem the idea of "out of sight out of mind" put it all into context when discussed the right way (in a wardrobe way) and everyone suddenly sunk it in. It's amazing how one thing changes everything if one gets what I mean.

What's the most "unimaginable accident" you've ever had?

Tell me about your goals and hobbies (self.casualconversation)

I've been thinking of setting some goals for the month. I lost my primary hobby (temporarily 🤞), so I've just been reading and spending ungodly amounts of time on Lemmy & Reddit. I want to spend my time in a more healthy and fulfilling way...

What are some goals you all are working towards? What are your hobbies that make you feel fulfilled? What's something that makes you look forward to the (near) future?

Is it on the road map ? Like it would be really useful when an instance it going to shut down or an instace admin goes volatile , so we don't have to manage several accounts .

Update : it does have the feature well kinda you can only import setting and subscribtion no saved posts or anything . To do this you have to go to the web page, sign in , setting , import . Hope this was helpfull.

Am a civil engineer working in tech now. I never felt like engineering was magical, we studied materials and stresses and tested stuff and built things.

While I know software engineers basically do the same things in a digital concept (hardware included) they are basically speaking arcane words that make the machine do things like conjure up images, transport information across the world at the speed of light.

Maybe fantasy writers should write more infrastructure into their stories for their wizards, like undersea cables or satellites built by the generations before

Title says it all. Does anyone have any bosses you worked for where you felt they were the epitome of epic leadership?

It's fucking delicious, that's for sure. A perfect addition of saltiness. And it has to be the tiniest bit, anything more is overpowering.

Am I the only weirdo who enjoys this?

Hey!

I am marrying my girlfriend in june and I invited a few friends of mine to my wedding.

My partner (female) has about 6 close friends and we wanted to stay around 50 people with family and friends for our wedding.

The problem I have is that I had to cut out a few people that I know but have nothing to do with since a few years. I feel kind of bad, because 2 girls in my friend circle are close with my best friends and I like them as friends to talk to but personally I wouldn't have anything to do with them without my friends.

It's a weird situation, but I didn't invite them because my partner and I wanted to keep it at the limit of 50 people with family and friends.

I feel bad. Today I was at a party and I couldn't talk about the wedding because 7 friends that were invited were there and the other two who werent invited would be left out so I avoided it and was happy nobody talked about the wedding invitations. I think the other two know they aren't invited even though I enjoy talking with them when we go out...

I hate weddings...

Here's one of mine:

Jenga Fortress

Split Jenga pieces equally and sit in a large circle (on the floor or at a big table). Everyone has one piece that is marked. Then everyone builds a fortress to protect their marked piece (the marked piece must be stood up on its small side).

Everyone gets a projectile. We liked using those thick rubber bands that came on broccoli at the grocery store, but you could use Nerf guns, balled up paper, whatever--as long as it's not too light and not too heavy.

Once everyone is ready, take turns firing at each other's fortresses, trying to knock down their marked pieces. Nobody can touch their fortress at this point.

Last marked piece standing is the winner.

Trying to eat healthier, (edit for me this means lower sugar, less carbs, more protein) and it seems like everything that is sweet, sweet-ish, or a snack but also sold as healthy has peanuts or is peanuts. I'm not allergic to it, but I am tired of peanut butter cookies, peanuts in a snack bar, peanuts on their own, peanuts in a snack mix.

I'm stuck on this personally. I love my manual, I have a tiny little Mazda 2 and I have driven that thing absolutely everywhere because I can control it better than any automatic I've ever driven. But I've been casually looking for a new car and I'd love to have an electric, but I don't want to lose that level of control and everything I love about a manual.

What do you all think? What's your take?

99% of my ideas for what to do with friends have to do with "we hang, but at a bar".

I've started to consider suggesting aquarium trips, outdoor movie nights, etc, but then I decided it might be nice to chit chat about it with y'all because I wanna hear what y'all like. Especially things you didn't expect to be as pleasant as they were but became a regular thing.

Well not quite but close. I'm holding a hard disk that has ALL of Wikipedia's text in 10 different languages.

Yes you can download all of Wikipedia and yes it can easily fit in a hard drive. Isn't that amazing? Text is incredibly dense compared to images and video. Around 22 GiB for English Wikipedia alone and 56 GiB for the 10 languages I downloaded.

I also have all of Wiktionary in the same hard drive. It's around 16.4 GiB.
