Probably not exactly you are asking for, but this reminds me of the window glass salesman who threw himself at a window to demonstrate how sturdy it is, only for the window itself to fall out and he died from falling a couple of stories.

His name was Garry hoy and he was a lawyer in Toronto funnily enough he was right about the glass - it was the window frame itself that failed.
Well there's the ol' "trash in one hand, phone in the other, throw the phone in the bin and put the trash in your pocket"
I've also walked out of stores with a cartload full of unpaid-for groceries before and only realized halfway through the drive home
Probably the worst/silliest was when I got in my car to drive to my friend's house (15 minutes away) and instead sat through over an hour of traffic to drive to work, without realizing what I'd done until I got to work and saw the texts from my friend. I was not scheduled to work that day.
Not a perfect fit but anyway.
I remember at one point getting home from work and realizing my phone wasn't in my pocket so I started searching for it. The overhead light in my car wasnt bright enough so I used my phone light to look between the seats. I did not realize I had had my phone in my hand for another 5-ish minutes.
Phone not in pocket- phone in hand.
