oh, that's really neat. thanks for the link!

yeah, agreed, I'd love something like that for the fediverse. Honestly, it feels like accessing various communities from different instances would actually feel more natural with it all being fed through the terminal for some reason.

I was talking about this with friends. I think that as the userbase grows, we'll reach the point of specific communities being like the "main" sub for that topic. Like, right now I'm subbed to 5 or 6 different "games" or "gaming" communities. Eventually, I think whichever instance ends up with the largest one will essentially become that default you're looking for.

That said, I don't think forcing it by collapsing alternate communities on different instances into one is the right way to proceed, because that may not be inevitable. I mean, maybe the [email protected] culture is different enough from the [email protected] one? We had r/games, gaming, truegamers, gaming4gamers, girlgamers etc etc on reddit, you know?

tldr: I think that, while communities for specific topics slowly shifting towards one mega-community seems likely, there's a space for different smaller ones with different moderation and culture here too.

Sorry, not an answer to your question, but what's rtv?

yeah! I'm a huge fan too, I've been beating that drum since it first dropped. It's great for indies and day 1 AAA accessibility, honestly. I've played so many more new releases in the last few years than I had in the decade prior to that option, and I try way more indie games than I used to since they're (generally) shorter and there's so many available. It's been so good for exploring new titles and genres that I probably never would've if I actually had to buy those games outright before getting to try them.

Like, I just 100%'d Chorus before it left game pass the other day - I really loved it, decent writing, sympathetic main characters, and some of the best dogfighting/flying I've ever experienced in any space game. Now that's a game I'm going to be super interested in any DLC or sequel for, and it's something I would've only maybe (but probably not) tried years down the line when I could buy it cheap, if not for game pass.

Yeah, it's the only issue I have with it. good thing federation means I don't have to actually go there to see the content haha

I did

The Lemmy equivalent of r/196 on Reddit. Not officially affiliated (yet).

it's just a meme sub? where does the number come from?

Feedly is the one I use, it's very nice having the news widget on my phone home screen that'll periodically auto refresh with new stories

but they don’t seem to be getting updated in Lemmy.world.

I think that's something to do with the version of Lemmy that .world is currently on, so that should hopefully be resolved relatively soon.

what is 195/196? I see them pop up sometimes but that name conveyed nothing to me in terms of what they're actually about

3 is the biggest thing about pivoting more towards Lemmy / traditional forums for me. It's been really nice feeling like I'm not drowning in a sea of trite idiocy and unempathetic rage every time I open a comment section. It's genuinely refreshing to feel like I'm actually engaging with normal people again.
