it says something about "spoofing identity" which raises a good question. If this does happen, how difficult would it be to just lie about your client environment with a spoofer of some sort?

There are security features in firefox that you may need to lower or disable in order to log in to certain sites. I believe the cross site tracking feature is a frequent problem child for logging in. You may also want to check any extensions you have installed such as adblockers, to find out if theyre interfering with the login process.
