I barely made the cutoff myself; I had one purchase for one item in Feb 2024

It looks like the 11th store voted to unionize just this January:

REI Greensboro WINS Union Election

January 24th, 2025 - via RWDSU:

“Tonight, the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) announced that workers at the REI Co-op in Greensboro, North Carolina voted to join the RWDSU, making REI Greensboro the eleventh unionized REI store in the country. Greensboro workers proudly unite with green vests organizing under the banner of the REI Union from coast to coast, fighting for fair pay, guaranteed hours, a clear path to full-time status, and transfer opportunities within the company.”

The REI Union is absolutely thrilled to have our coworkers in Greensboro joining our movement. We can’t wait to see what they accomplish with their collective voice as they start negotiating with REI over the changes they need to see at their store. Congratulations Greensboro!

I didn’t get an option to vote against.

From the Union FAQ:

What will I put on my ballot? How do I reject REI’s candidates?

For each candidate, the ballot will give you an option to vote “For” them or “Withhold” your vote against them. You can reject REI’s candidates by voting “Withhold.” By doing so, you’ll signal to REI that you’re ready to see a change on the board away from corporate leadership. It’s time for REI to get back to its roots.

For me it’s easy to imagine an article being linked to two communities that are going to have drastically different takes.

[email protected] and [email protected] for example.

Now I can see wanting to have a discussion across both communities, but I can also see /c/cars wanting discuss cars without having every conversation devolve into an argument or admonishment.

As I was writing this another problem came to mind. You have a pooled discussion across two or more communities with two or more moderation policies. How could that be reconciled?

My personal opinion is to pick the top two or three most applicable communities and post there.

As someone who primarily browses Local or All, after seeing the third identical post it starts looking like spam.

Choosing what you say or share is censorship?!

I think you know what needs to happen lemmings…

It was hitting the jamb on the bottom. The hinges seemed tight, so I just hit it with 40 grit sandpaper since it’s solid wood. Hit it with some sealant and it looks good as new.

I had to retighten the handle too. When I went to do the final test I was a little worried it the handle might not work correctly so I made sure I had my phone, my leatherman, and a bottle of water “just in case”.

I was surprised and very happy how well it came out.

I work from home. It has many advantages, but one big disadvantage is you might not notice it’s a holiday and work anyway.

Dare I ask my boss for Tuesday off since I accidentally worked the holiday anyway?
