I want anything AI-related to be forced to be opt-in. I’m sick of having to find out these things on the news/Lemmy/wherever when it is likely too late to have them use the data already

[–] billbasher 1 points 2 weeks ago

It’s peanuts to them. It’s about 15h of profits is all. You can’t even call it a slap on the wrist, more like a friendly tickle ha

I can’t help but wonder if this is to take the news spotlight away from the Siri recording scandal that just popped up

This would be sweet to have. I won’t buy anything until there are acceptable data usage privacy policies though. It’s a free for all right now and aftermarket disabling generally breaks functionality

Yeah they worked amazingly. I went into classes already knowing a lot of the math and science material and the teachers lessons taught principles instead of just formulas. I would say they are still beneficial for todays kids although there may be better ones now. There’s nothing like saving your little video game buddy to force you to memorize things haha

For the typing yeah it trained me not to look at the keyboard and type things very quickly. One trick my typing teacher in school used was to put cardboard over the keyboard so you can’t see. I think that would probably pair nicely with the game.

Gex

Mario Teaches Typing

All of the ‘Blaster Learning System’ games like Math Blasters: In Search of Spot

I was pretty young still so those educational ones were hella fun and my parents would let me play as much as I wanted

Daily: 2011 Subaru STi wagon. It’s fun, speedy, has excellent traction for the mountains and snow where I live, and can transport 4 people with snowboarding gear.

Fun: 1955 Caddie. My great uncle bought it new so this is nostalgic.

Moto: 1982 Yamaha XS650. I use this for joy rides in the mountains and to save on gas

Only their sound bytes are trustworthy to an extent. Even then they’ve probably clipped them to fit a narrative.

This is the whole article:

“Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., on Sunday described President-elect Donald Trump's threat to jail members of the House Jan. 6 Committee as "an outrageous statement" and said President Joe Biden should consider pre-emptive pardons for committee members.

"This is what authoritarianism is all about. It's what dictatorship is all about," Sanders said.”

I used to use TeamSpeak. Very cross platform, as it should be. It still has great reviews although I haven’t dug that far into the privacy aspect yet

I don’t have any options for you but make sure you get one that doesn’t use battery when not in use. It’s really annoying replacing those little coin batteries all the time even though you only use it like .001% of the time

Anyone running a 13x or 14x should test their PC using Intel’s stress test utility, especially if you have had crashes. It’s permanent damage and they will replace your processor.

Also update your BIOS if you have those chips. There is a software fix for if you haven’t been affected yet

Amazon Returns (self.asklemmy)

What happens if you try to return an empty package?

So I like to draw a bit, that kinda turned into painting and then exploded into 3d design. Now I want to paint my prints but with my experience I am not sure what to get. I won’t use the paints outside of prints most likely. Are there any that are good that are good to be used sparsely? Maybe any techniques?

Spring Potential Energy (self.askscience)

Say a dissolvable spring is compressed with a bolt and nut that do not melt in a sulfuric acid solution. The spring has quite a bit of potential energy at this point since it is compressed. Assuming the spring dissolves perfectly (no breakage, just complete disintegration), what happens to the potential energy of the spring?

My PSN Analysis (lemmy.world)

This is the Discord FAQ archive, I recommend reading all of it https://lemmy.ca/post/20577314

**Steam Announcement 5/2/24 **

This announces the return of PSN forced logins

“Due to technical issues at the launch of HELLDIVERS™ 2, we allowed the linking requirements for Steam accounts to a PlayStation Network account to be temporarily optional. That grace period will now expire. See details below in this post.

Account linking plays a critical role in protecting our players and upholding the values of safety and security provided on PlayStation and PlayStation Studios games. This is our main way to protect players from griefing and abuse by enabling the banning of players that engage in that type of behaviour. It also allows those players that have been banned the right to appeal.”

**Playstation Announcement 5/5/24 **

Backing out the PSN account changes, some corpo BS basically

"Helldivers fans—we’ve heard your feedback on the Helldivers 2 account linking update. The May 6 update, which would have required Steam and PlayStation Network account linking for new players and for current players beginning May 30, will not be moving forward. We’re still learning what is best for PC players and your feedback has been invaluable. Thanks again for your continued support of Helldivers 2 and we’ll keep you updated on future plans.”

**Some Analysis **

Basically from the information I gathered here’s how I see it went down. The notice requiring PSN connection was always there where all the EULA requirements are (right side of the store page next to the game features. You have to scroll past the buy button to see it. I never look at those. “Requires 3rd-Party Account: PlayStation Network (Supports Linking to Steam Account)” The PSN connection requirement was —active— on launch for a short amount of time. Due to the massive server lag this was causing they paused the feature. They then reenabled, leading to the previous 2 announcements.

**Problems I see with Sony **

  1. They should never have sold to the 177 countries that it is illegal Corporate BS from the FAQ basically says go to a country that supports PSN, make an account, and go back.

Comment from @[email protected] “Basically if you don’t live in a PSN country, they want you to lie to make a PSN account, making you in breach of the TOS. But they don’t want to say it directly. So they only answer in that mealy mouthed if you’re traveling scenario. What this means is if you live in one of the 66% of the world countries that doesn’t have access to PSN You’re going to lose access to the game. Unless you lie. And if you lie you could get banned.”

  1. They needed to make it absolutely clear in-game that they were having server issues and that PSN login would be required once they got that sorted.

This was a fuck-up on their part not keeping their users informed. If they had put in that simple notification in-game none of this would have happened.

  1. After one or two months of the feature not working and having huge success with the servers, amount of users, and player engagement, they should have just scrapped the feature.

  2. Anyone being gifted the game would not have been aware of this, ever.

**Good things that happened: **

  1. Steam offered full refunds to anyone that played, regardless of hours, which is extremely rare

  2. After much collaboration from the gamers, PSN is no longer required

  3. Gamers were able to push a corpo to not do some BS. Huge win

**To summarize: **

I didn’t notice the 3rd party login that was present when I purchased. That’s on me. Early gamers knew about the PSN connection. Any one of them that thought it was bad would have just returned it. Any one who didn’t care kept playing and didn’t bring it up because they didn’t care. Sony probably made the assumption people pay attention to those things. I will continue to play. For Democracy!

If you did leave a negative review consider taking it down. It is still a very great game. I’m going to delete mine but am not going to give a positive one due to the fuckery.

Amazon (self.asklemmy)

With the addition of ads for paying users, is there anything subscribers can do to protest? I hate ads with a passion.

Maybe separate all shipping items to cost them more? I’m not seeing many options other than cancellation

There are laws in place for service workers related to minimum wage. The employers have to make up the difference if tips don’t meet the rate for hours worked. It seems to me that’s not sufficient for the times.

Hypothetically, if everyone were to stop tipping in the U.S. would things be better or worse for workers? Would employers start paying workers more?

It was working this morning until I had to refresh the mobile site. Does anyone have a solution for this or are we gonna have to wait until the next update?
