He’s “served his time” with dishes. He started work as a kitchen porter a few months ago, so we agreed that ge should get a pass on doing the dishes at home. The next oldest two kids have that fun task now!

Due to the time he gets off etc we agreed the bins were the best candidate. Get home; empty bins; stick em out if needed. But apparently it’s too big of an ask.

[–] Finnbot 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Aye that’s my thinking at least. It’s been going on for ages as well, and no matter what I do or say it’s just not getting through.

I’m trying to set him up to be able to cope on his own and if he can’t (or worse, won’t) engage and start pitching in with such a small ask then he’s gonna be fucked when he’s trying to stay afloat on his own.

For those of you with older kids at home, what do you do regarding dig money?

I’ve got an 18 year old and the agreement was that as long as he pitches in around the house (bins are his responsibility - emptying into the wheelie bins and putting out whichever one it is that week) and attends his college course then he can keep his money. He’s at college 2.5 days a week and then work for the rest, clearing around £900 a month.

The issue is he is always fucking “forgetting” to put the bins out. Even when I’ve bought him a fucking echo so he can set up reminders etc.

There’s myself, my wife and the 5 kids (10-18) so there’s a fuckton of rubbish. Missing it even once causes massive ballache. Thing is, he’s always forgetting.

Came to a head this morning because, once again, he forgot. This is after messaging me last night 15 minutes before he was due home asking to have someone stay, so I changed all my plans to accommodate. And the shit didn’t put the bins out again.

I feel like I’m going round in circles with him and it’s beginning to really affect me. Stressing to fuck over bins, what even is that!

Only thing I can think of is to start charging him dig money now. I’m sick bending over backwards for him not to pitch in with this one thing.

Does that seem reasonable? Or am I being a crabit bastard? What amounts are people taking from their weans etc here? Was thinking £100 since I easily spend more than that on keeping the lazy shit each month.

Edit to add - Dig Money meaning money he pays towards household expenses :)

I came up a croppe once again. Just can’t face the fact of it finally being over!

Started China Mieville’s Perditot Street station instead, which seems to be pretty good so far. I’ll try again maybe next year!

I’ve finally worked myself up to read Shepherd’s Crown after numerous attempts but getting too emotional.

Just finished Wee Free Men this morning and I was already a bubbling wreck at the end. It’s gonna be a rough, emotional ride.

What a fantastic article, thanks for posting!

I’m the opposite. I manage a BAU team and our team are active on slack, and seem to be thriving. We have two webex meetings a week, keep in constant touch and we all love it.

Online communities are more than good enough at the best of times so I don’t see how they can’t work in the professional space.

[–] Finnbot 32 points 1 year ago (6 children)

Ok - but I don’t go to work for a sense of community? I go to work to earn money to survive. My tasks get done, profits are up overall so why do I need to feel engaged and how does being isolated have any negative effect on that?

No idea, always thought it was weird that one “offence” led to permanently losing my years old account.

I even appealed the ban, explaining the reasoning behind reporting the article, and it was upheld! Bonkers - I still have no idea what it was in my report that led to such a mental reaction. “What are these lies” were what I titled it.

[–] Finnbot 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I got perma banned from Reddit for reporting a Fox News article that was posted on r/politics which stated climate change had no impact on wildfire occurrences.

Said I was abusing the report function to bully or harass people. For reporting blatant fucking right wing lies! I’d never even reported any posts before.

People would rather bury their stupid fucken heids in the ground than face the truth.

Such a classic. Absolute _ banging_ music. Nothing quite like watching the hillside become a forest of graves as a testament to how much young you sucked.

It’s so demoralising as well. There was someone handing out (Scottish) labour flyers on the high street and looked at me like I was an idiot when I laughed and said they’re just red tories.

It’s a race to see who can fuck us over the most for the benefit of the “elite”.

How goes folks?

Good weekend I hope. Get up to anything interesting? I’m at the tail end of a long weekend so once again I’ve let the weans sleep in and am using the time to get in about some Baldurs Gate 3 in peace.

Summer holidays are getting old - weans have their pc’s in living room and hearing my boy all day yesterday spout utter nonsense in discord was seriously ripping ma knittin’, as they say. Only another two weeks!

Happy Wednesday folks!

What have we all been watching this week?

I finished season 2 of This Fool which was great.

Currently sitting on my arse watching episode 7 of Hijack which has been a brilliant wee surprise. Not usually a fan of scary airplane stuff but this has me hooked.

Righteous Gemstones season 3 finished up this week too. Love a bit of Danny McBride and this season has been phenomenal.

Can’t forget What We Do in the Shadows - hilarious as ever.

After growing my beard out for maybe 5-6 years, trimming it myself and generally keeping it looking “reasonable” I thought I’d treat myself and go get it trimmed by a “professional” first thing before a day full of webex meetings.

Now admittedly it was maybe a bit What year is it?, but it was well taken care of. Wee dude even commented on how it was one of the softest he’d cut.

Then he fucking trimmed it to fuck, into a big sorcerers point while I just sat there aghast. Absolutely scunnered.

Morning folks, got up early before work so I could finish off the last episode of Legion.

I absolutely loved this show - the music, the costume design - it did everything right. Favourite parts by far were whenever it had a musical number. So fucking surrreal.

It’s got me super hyped for Noah Hawley’s take on Alien as well. Cannae wait!

We’ve got a bunch and the ones that annoy the weans, like calling Jalapeños Jalpaneros in public, are our favourites.

I love late evenings at this time of the year. Added benefit because the beach is usually empty around 10pm.

Also saw a Great Heron here’s a shitty picture

Happy Sunday folks!

Got the wean’s girlfriend visiting from Austria for the week and look what their Dad brought as a gift!

Would love to hear of some interesting/peculiar gifts that folk have unexpectedly received? I was absolutely blown away by getting this and it’s just such a nice wee gesture that I was blown away.

I have my kid’s Austrian friend staying with us for a week and her Dad got us this fancy torte to try. It was delicious!
