The sync dev is doing it right by redirecting their users to the next project. Looking forward to sync for Lemmy!

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Hoping the Fediverse can be better synchronized so users can more easily interact between Kbin and Lemmy.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I haven't noticed any problem interacting between the two. Is there something I haven't noticed yet?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The instances vary. Some are currently federating better than others, the servers that are currently in higher loads are dropping activity more often and not syncing as well.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Welp, since my earlier comment I've seen lots of syncing issues. lol

[–] OptiMoose 5 points 1 year ago

I only heard about Lemmy cuz of that message.

[–] [email protected] 33 points 1 year ago (1 children)

RIP?, i'm only seeing upgrades

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

I see this as an absolute win.

[–] GiddyGap 30 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Can't concentrate on anything but the 2% battery left. What kind of animal are you?

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

An animal with a broken charging port. Used my OnePlus 6t forever ago, the port doesn't work right and there's no wireless charging

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

I used an ifixit Article to replace my pixel screen a while back, I don't think chargers are too difficult and are relatively inexpensive.

friendship ended with Sync for Reddit, now Sync for Lemmy is my best friend

[–] holupwaitaminute 21 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Used Sync since it came out, will be using it again when it's on lemmy! I appreciate that the Connect interface is pretty similar.

[–] GiddyGap 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Connect is all right. I actually like Liftoff a little better. But I'll go back to Sync when it ready for Lemmy.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Yeah same here, liftoff is cool, albeit a little confusing for me so far. But Sync had such amazing UI

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

With my luck, sync for lemmy will be ready about 5 minutes after I get used to the jerboa interface

[–] Dashi 4 points 1 year ago

Same here. I love sync but connect has been alright. Have you found a way to hide posts? That is what I'm missing the most at the moment

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Nice of them to mention Lemmy. A lot of anti-reddit press doesn't include the alternatives.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago

They're not just mentioning Lemmy they're making a new app for it!

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 year ago

Looking forward to using the new sync on lemmy. Happy to pay for it again. Can't wait. ☺

[–] AlternActive 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

RiF user. So proud of what everyone is pulling here. Everyone united, no matter the app, for the same goal. A new "home" on the web.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Its not the web anymore bro. It the Internet. But hopefully we can change that!

[–] AlternActive 5 points 1 year ago

You kids and your funny words. let's meet in the middle: "A new home on this series of tubes"

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (3 children)

What are you talking about? Seriously, I don't understand. Are you trying to make a joke?

If you're serious:

The Web—short for World Wide Web— is the software on top of it all, i.e. the series of networked websites we all enjoy; the Internet is the hardware behind it all, i.e. the series of networked computers and servers behind it all.

It's still the Web, which is still hosted on the Internet. They are not cultural terms that shift with public opinion.

If you're joking:

Well, then I just don't get it and I apologize for my social ineptitude. :P

Looking forward to sync for lemmy

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

I am super excited to have a Sync client for Lemmy. In the meantime the PWA WefWef is pretty dang good.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

the GOAT is dead, long live the GOAT!

[–] cheesydoritoschips 8 points 1 year ago (2 children)

and im here praying for Apollo for lemmy. you lucky android users :(

nuff said mlem and memmy are still some pretty good apps for what they are currently tho (plus they are both inspired by Apollo).

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

If you haven't already, check out this PWA that is extremely Apollo-like!

https://WefWef.app/

[–] cheesydoritoschips 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

oooo thanks for showing me that, im currently using memmy as it’s the most apollo-like for me currently but that’s just straight up feels right at home for me tysm

but i kinda want a native app tho. but oh well, most “native” apps these days are just PWAs in an electron powered trench coat so id maybe it wont be as bad as im imagining rn

Former Relay user here, I'm excited for Sync! Liftoff has been interesting as well so far, and I'm trying out some others much like I tried several Reddit apps before settling on Relay. The link/comments divider bar is just such a great idea, I'm surprised none of the more popular apps use it. Hopefully someone makes something similar for Lemmy, or maybe I should make it as a fun personal project.

I used Sync for years, it's sad to see it go. There's no way I'm going back to Reddit's official app.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Does anyone mind elaborating why it is/was called sync and what it's/was used for? Did it sync with anything or is it just another app like Apollo and RIF?

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It originally had a "sync" feature that would download your frontpage and all the comments (and/or other chosen subreddits as well I think) for offline browsing. It was very useful when I used to commute via bus and had a very spotty internet connection.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Huh, it's an interesting piece of history. Was this feature deprecated, or did I just never found it/forgot about it?

I used it on plane flights

[–] figaro 5 points 1 year ago

Sync was the first reddit app I used. I eventually went to slide, but I love sync! I'll probably use it when it comes out.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Will my Sync Pro for Reddit licence carry over to Sync Pro for Lemmy?

If not, that's fine, but I'll wait it out to see which developer crrates the best front end before giving them my money.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 year ago (1 children)

These apps cost pocket change considering how expensive life is right now. I can't think of anything else where I get so much value out of so little.

We have to be willing to pay out of pocket to support a competition if we're not happy with the way reddit is making money.

Even if pro subscription carries over I'm still buying it again. Sync was the best android client!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I don't disagree at all 😁👍

[–] StaticKhaos 5 points 1 year ago

Just joined Lemmy. Great to see Sync for Lemmy is coming soon!

[–] Cannabisms 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Long time sync pro user, theres a work around with revanced manager but eh. So far Infinity is still working though

Kbin is the step-child, i'm assuming all the devs are seeing the growth in lemmy and haven't really noticed kbin!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Kbin doesn't have an API and so it's probably less straightforward to dev for. Plus Lemmy is older and more established. I believe ljdawson said in a comment somewhere that he'll work on Kbin integration somewhere down the line. I think that's the way it will go for most of the apps.
