News and Discussions about Reddit
Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.
The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:
Rules
Rule 1- No brigading.
**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **
YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.
Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.
**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **
Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.
Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.
Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.
That's it.
Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.
Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.
Rule 6- Regarding META posts.
Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.
Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.
If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.
Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.
Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.
Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.
Let everyone have their own content.
:::spoiler Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.
As a data hoarder by nature, it hurt me to do the same. But I did, and power delete suite worked perfectly (albeit a bit slower than I expected). It even kept going once everything went silent
My computer went to sleep and I ended up losing a lot of data cuz the tool froze. Still worth it though, at least I’m not leaving anything behind.
Keep an eye on it in a few days. Make sure what you deleted stays deleted. Multiple people have been reporting their posts and information being restored.
Yeah, I haven't deleted the account yet for that reason. I did mass edit them before deletion so hopefully that holds, at least.
I'm not sure if actually deleted/edited comments are being restored (has yet to happen to me), but I know for sure that one thing can happen. If a community you commented was private when you did this, you wouldn't be able to edit or delete those comments. Once the sub goes public again, they'll show up on your profile, untouched by your mass edit/delete. Unfortunately there seems to be absolutely nothing we can do about this.
I noticed this too, I deleted a bunch of comments during the blackouts and when some subs came back the comments showed up.
I guess we’ll just have to keep logging in to make sure the job’s done. At this point, that’s the only thing I’m gonna log in for.
Those secret Santa trophies... Back when it used to feel like a community.
Right? Breaks my heart. I still have the Star Trek shirt my secret Santa got me.
Oof, yeah I still got my drawing tablet from like 8 years ago, legit started me on my digital art journey.
12 years for me. It was a good run. On to newer things. :)
14 years in September. I’ve seen stuff come and go but the manner in which this happened was not due to a better (yet) option or technology moving on rather the worst elements of corporate cynicism. Ignoring, completely, that not just content but the very functioning of the site is due to users. The same users that are now motivated to find the next thing as has happened so often before.
They’ll stumble along for a while, maybe even with decent financial results…but it’s a shuffling corpse ultimately and seeing paths taking shape have made it easier to accept.
Yup. So many memories. F spez!
Edit: 11 years would have been July 12th.
Damn, you went hard!
"Reddit Premium since June 2023"
wat
I was commenting this morning about how it's July 1st here and I'm enjoying the last few hours. Refreshed after Saturday sport and it all... just... gone.
Still going to log in on computer occasionally to see story updates on HFY and my vast porn collection (with no ads), but other than that this is where we are.
Yeah 😢
I'm getting all my posts scraped then I'm scrubbing my account and deleting it.
Here's to Lemmy 🥂
I made my first account to post in nosleep in 2012. It’s become a habit as much a part of my day as my morning coffee, but once I’m done with something, I. Am. Done.
We need a fucking flashbang warning on this website AUGH
11 years, 8 months here. It’s 25% of my life.
Sometimes change is bittersweet.
🫡😭
At 26, I’ve been using Reddit for nearly half my life. I had backed up all my posts, comments, etc but when I hit the delete button in PowerDeleteSuite I felt like I just threw a big part of my life away.
11 years, 10 months 😢
But I think it’s for the best, hopefully helps with my scrolling addiction, I spent way too much time on that site and so far doesn’t seem Lemmy has enough to scratch the itch. I’m sure in time it will but I think by then I’ll be less in a habit of picking up my phone to scroll.
11 years, 3 months here. Almost half my life. I didn't think I could get this emotional over something like this. Oh well, on to newer and better things now I guess.
I'm in the process of deleting a 10 yr old account now (among a few others). No regrets. Time to move on to better things.
You were even there for the secret Santa days...it's the end of an era for sure
Reminder not to trust this view - Google your username with "site:reddit.com" and you'll no doubt find things that Reddit has chosen not to show you for... Reasons.
I was 14 years and 150 karma. Never bothered to figure out what karma meant?
11 years of posts just erased. Hope to see Lemmy gain more users soon 🫡
I did the same thing this morning. Thirteen years of content erased.
You and me both dude. Just looked at slide for Reddit and... Nothing
I mean this without sarcasm at all: why exactly are you people nuking your accounts? I'm not planning to use Reddit much from now on, but I don't really see any reason why i should destroy an anonymous account over there ...
They get ad revenue based on people viewing user content. I don't want them making money off of what I wrote anymore.
It's to remove all content from Reddit, because the site gets all of its content through the users, so if they delete everything, there is no content or information on Reddit.
It seems the whole thing is that they want to monetize user content. My thirteen years of content, which I've occasionally seen pop up on other sites, just went poof.
12 years for me. It was a good run. On to newer things. :)
Ditto; 11 years. Secret Santa and the Halloween exchanges were so much fun.
10 years here. Weird to see all that history to just go away, but it was for the best.
