DJ Calvert told BBC News NI: "I've been let down - and I'm not the only one."

It was proof that Northern Ireland's health and social care system had "crashed", said the 49-year-old.

Billionaires exist and this poor man can't get a goddamn health care worker.

At all levels of government we're (worldwide) making due with less while these fucking parasites grow.

Shit is going to get ugly in the next few decades...

Bringing out the guillotine again.

I read the headline thinking 'so what else is new' and then realized they weren't talking about the US. Here it wouldn't be news at all.

[–] Arrakis 26 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Over the past while, our government has essentially turned our welfare system into a parody of the US's. This guy makes the most amazing Lego sculptures, and it's so fucking sad he's going through this.

Capitalists are all greedy scum. I desperately wish the world realized this.

[–] interceder270 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

They do, the problem is the ones in power are all in on it.

[–] MotoAsh 8 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

I dunno', I still hear far too many people simping for the rich believing they all personally earned their riches and I hear far too many people still believing "capitalism" is just using money to buy things.

Ignorance is alive and well.

Yep.

I had a construction worker try to explain to me how Elon Musk is a genius who makes it possible for me to do my job (I work in the Space Industry, NOT for SpaceX) and I should be grateful he's creating those opportunities for me instead of hating on him. He got really mad about it when I didn't agree.

He got even angrier when I asked him why someone like him, on the lowest rung of the labor ladder, was simping like that. He had no answer though.

Really? No other system in the world has made so much disposable wealth that we actually have some sort of safety net. In most countries or in past centuries, a disabled person would have only his family as a safety net and barring that begging. Most did not live long.

Is not perfect. But if past indications are to go on, it will get better even if you have some back sliding.

Do not mistake the gains of technological advancement as the gains of capitalism.

Capitalism has everyone competing and protecting wealth. Capitalism gave us HDCP. Capitalism gave us the RIAA that hamstrung streaming music for YEARS. Capitalism gave us Disney, and Disney gave us a century long patent system that blocks innovation instead of blocking copycats. Capitalism gives companies vast wealth to lobby with. There are many ills capitalism promotes.

Capitalism is not using money and having companies compete. Capitalism is these businesses pocketing those vast sums of wealth they then squander to send to investors (who did zero of the work) or give to Congressmen, or simply pocket it with extreme executive pay and bonuses.

[–] Aux 0 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Literally EVERYTHING that's good in the modern world, including technological advancement, is thanks to capitalism. If it wasn't for capitalism, we'd still live in slavery in the dark ages.

[–] Zippy -1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Oh bS. The majority of gains have been exclusively from capitalistic countries. Capitalism gave us the luxury to create art like the such that Disney can provide.

Tell me what has the other models given? Theft of IP, Human rights issues, poverty, hunger and sometimes mass deaths. If you don't like it, move to Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Russia, China... Seriously move. I am sure at least one of those countries would take you.

If you had half a fucking brain, you'd realize most of the achievements of the US have come from communist like practices.

Who invented the internet? A corporation or the government? Who invented memory foam? Scratch resistant lenses? CMOS cameras? The list of NASA inventions goes on amd on and on, and they have a TINY budget.

Look at the internet. HTTP, JavaScript, HTML, TLS, TCP, etc, etc, etc... NONE of it is from corporations.

Fucking wake up and stop sucking capitalism's dick. Capitalism gives us Reddit's downfall and you're on fucking Lemmy... Wake up and look around you.

[–] Zippy 0 points 10 months ago (1 children)

And what have the Communists invented? Go back to your hole. Communist like practices. Lol. That is rich. Really you should move to a communist country. How many people have literally starved to death under those governments? But your only response is look at what came out of capitalist countries that I believe are the results of Communists in that country.

Really before you come up with these ideas, you need to first explain why so many people died of starvation in communist countries.

[–] MotoAsh 1 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

You are seriously beyond pathetic. Literally incapable of thought. How about you respond to everything I pointed out that capitalists didn't invent instead of pretending you're still correct?

Just because others have done horrible things under the LABEL of communism doesn't mean it was communism that brought about those ills. Just like the Chinese Communist Party isn't communist in ANY way except in their name. Though you are too ignorant and willingly stupid to understand history or nuance or how propaganda works.

Again, you are seriously pathetically incapable of thought. I guess that's why you call Disney the pinnacle of capitalist "art".

Yea... 500 milk toast, uncreative super hero IPs that they didn't even invent themselves... They sure are the poster child for capitalism. You're just too stupid to see how fucking shit they are compared to real art.

[–] Zippy 0 points 10 months ago (2 children)

All you can do is insult because you can't come up with any communist government or system that has not worked in any way but caused deaths. There was not alot of art diving out of the USSR. What a joke.

[–] MotoAsh 0 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

Again, you are once again so pathetic you cannot even address the points I made. Have fun being a brainwashed worker drone.

[–] Zippy 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Your points mean nothing as I had already said considering in no place has communism ever succeeded. I am not spending effort to rebuke points that only exist in fairyland.

[–] MotoAsh 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

You truly are pathetic. You've failed to address a single point. Just pure dogma. You truly are a complete moron.

[–] Zippy 0 points 10 months ago (1 children)

No your a moron. Your the moron. You come from morons. It a dummy. I can be goofy too. :)

[–] MotoAsh 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Try being correct instead of goofy.

[–] Zippy 0 points 10 months ago

No your goofy you the goofy. Goofy goofy goofy.

[–] Aux 0 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Don't waste your breath, parasites gonna parasite.

[–] Zippy 0 points 10 months ago

I am just baiting him. Those tankie are easy to upset. I should really get a better hobby.

[–] GeneralEmergency 7 points 10 months ago

This is Northern Ireland. We don't have a government at the moment. not saying the Tories haven't fucked it over. But there is more to it.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 10 months ago (1 children)

The sad thing is in the US its extremely likely the fellow would have already been dead after years living on the streets with a cardboard sign.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

A man born without hands or legs has been told he will soon no longer get a daily visit from a care worker to help him shower and get dressed.

It added that it understood "the worry it is causing", and would "seek an alternative provider" that would "support him to continue living independently in his own home".

His care is provided by Connected Health but that is due to end on 1 December, with the company telling BBC News NI that it was "increasingly stretched in ever more demanding circumstances".

Mr Calvert's friend Vicky has been making additional visits to help four days a week but now that looks to be the only assistance he will get.

Mr Calvert's mother, Heather, said she "just couldn't believe it" when she heard that her son was losing his care package.

She told Evening Extra that over the past seven months the situation surrounding DJ's care has been "a rollercoaster".

My dad in his 79 years of wisdom told me a few years back about brexit ( we have been in Canada since the 70s)

"It's just a roundabout way to say we don't like brown people"

I still stick by that. Succinct.

mind boggeling that sunak yesterday stood infront of a sign saying "boats must be stopped".
