Had mine for a year and yep no I'm just gonna pretend OLED doesn't exist.

Got mine in August. Whatever, I'm happy with it. Fantastic controls

This. Do I want an OLED deck? Yes. Do I need one? Absolutely not. I like my deck enough and I can wait for Steam Deck 2.

I'm one of those weirdos that never thought the screen looked bad to begin with. I'm interested in the upgrade of course, but I can give it another year. The software upgrades alone make it feel like I'm running a new Steam Deck compared to when I got it 1.5 years ago.

I'm more interested in battery life and weight reduction. The better screen is secondary.

Is it weird that I want the nested carrying case as much as any of the other upgrades?

Yeah... That is nice... People downvoted me on reddit back in the beginning when the original released for wanting a more compact case for throwing in a Backpack..... "Why would you want a case, it has a case that is perfect already....", "Why would you want something that protects less..." ... Ugh...

I bought a MEPETEM-Steam Deck Protective Case and love it. My deck now takes up as little space in my backpack as possible.

Yeah I personally have the dbrand one bit yeah plenty of options nowadays. But it's nice valve offers something as well.

Those software updates are going to soon make the screen look a bit better too as SteamOS 3.5 adds saturation and colour temperature tuning settings.

I got it only a few months ago. I can wait a while for another. I'm still impressed what this little bugger can do. Also, then again I never bothered with the Switch OLED neither so I may not be the best.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago

The OLED seems to be more of a power consumption upgrade. The resolution is the same. Sure you will get more color depth with the OLED but it probably isn't worth the upgrade if you already have a deck. If they offer the new screen as an after market upgrade that may be worth it. But I'm the meantime the deck HD has a higher resolution.

I'm happy for new buyers getting a better deck that I got. That makes more of us to tell game devs "you will test and tune your game to run well on the Deck". It means more games that work for me.

The number of "barely used" Steam Deck Kijiji/marketplace ads that shot up yesterday was incredible.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 10 months ago

One was mine, but I just put great condition. I doubt it will actually sell for what I'm asking, but I'll be cool with it either way.

debating on waiting for the steam deck 2. love the idea of upgrading to OLED but idk, i can't be this fiscally irresponsible!

[–] [email protected] 8 points 10 months ago (1 children)

There is no steam deck 2 planned for years according to Valve.

I'm gonna pretend I didn't read this and pull the wool back over my eyes.

Those are Brillo pads, bro...

[–] Thekingoflorda 12 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Don’t say that, my poor wallet can’t handle that.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

Im sorry. I meant once you go OLED you don't go back.

Edit: it's like eye orgasms.

[–] ekZepp 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Cmon, a bit less. Meme aside i refuded my deck also because x the same bucks i'll get the double of the storage. The lcd screen with vibrant plugin is quite good as is it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago

You will gain some extra battery time depending on what you're doing with it. So, the OLED is still better to have.

Got mine a year ago and the OLED is really tempting. I've had the OLED switch and steam deck side by side and the screen on the switch is much better. What I'm hoping is that the screen is a drop in replacement option for the original.

Edit: Damn...

[–] [email protected] 7 points 10 months ago

Out of the box, no. But I know some tinkerer is going to figure it out. Will it ever be practical? Probably not. But I'll enjoy seeing that Frankendeck.

I wonder if refurbished decks will be available in time for Christmas?

Never mind. They just reduced the price for older models!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 10 months ago

if they gave credit for an older one I would be way tempted.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 10 months ago

by the time I'm able to get one a proper sequel is gonna be out lmao

[–] [email protected] 3 points 10 months ago

This template is the most confusing shit

[–] TheAmishMan 3 points 10 months ago

Did the exact same thing with the quest 2. Two weeks after getting mine they announced the quest 3. Had to wait a few months, but glad i did

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

I'm trying to save so I can get both the old and OLED. I'll set em up on the shelf next to each other and then when I get a friend we can play together
