The amount of apps being developed for iOS / Android is getting really crazy now and new apps keep popping up every day. Updated list below:

  • Artemis (iOS, Android, kbin, lemmy): link
  • Memmy (iOS, lemmy): link
  • Mlem (iOS, lemmy): link
  • Morpha (iOS, lemmy): link
  • Thunder (iOS, Android, lemmy): link
  • Beyond (iOS, Android, kbin, lemmy): link
  • Limbo (iOS, Android, lemmy): link
  • Jerboa (Android, lemmy): link
  • Slide (Android, lemmy): link
  • Sync (Android, lemmy): link
  • Unnamed (kbin): link
  • Connect (Android, lemmy): link
  • Summit (Android, lemmy): link
  • Lemmynade (Android, lemmy): link
  • WefWef (Web App, lemmy): link

Most apps on the list are lemmy apps, meaning they don't work with kbin. Artemis is specifically designed to work with kbin, not sure if or when any of the other ones will go in that direction or become interoperable as there are some challenges with the kbin API at the moment. Having said that, a new API is in the works (https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core/pulls/357) so things should get better with time. Some of the apps are in very early stage of development so it may happen that they adjust OS availability and platform support.

Lemmynade has the advantage of being FOSS. Currently testing it out, I like it quite a bit.

[–] peepo 25 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Thunder is also FOSS. I was thinking of contributing since it is made with Flutter and I work as a Flutter developer.

I've never contributed before but I feel like this whole Reddit/Lemmy switch is a great opportunity to give back to the FOSS community for all the awesome apps I've used these last few years!

πŸ‘€πŸ‘€Hey there, developer of Thunder here. It would be great if you could contribute towards the project! I’m still very much learning about Flutter/Dart and I’m sure there’s a whole bunch of things that could be improved!

Jerboa and Slide are also FOSS.

I created a community to keep track of apps in development. Here is a list I compiled, it has few more apps I found on github.

I'm working on one as well right now, idk if it will become a serious contender, but if it does should I message you? :)

[–] rist097 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yes, if you are working on an app, message me I will put it on the list. Thank you

Just want to give Memmy a shoutout! Those on iOS should highly consider testing the app. It has a lot of features already implemented in it and the team is releasing quality updates daily.

[–] pinwurm 8 points 2 years ago

Using the app right now. Love getting daily updates and seeing the thing built in real time.

They plan on submitting to the App Store 6/27. So if you can’t get in the Beta, you don’t have to wait long - pending on how fast Apple can review it.

Also using Memmy, and it is great for such an early product. Works quite well on both iPad and iOS where I’ve been testing it out.

I've been a Sync for Reddit user for probably about 6 years now. I'm hyped for when it releases for Lemmy!

[–] MicroWave 15 points 2 years ago

Thanks for compiling this list. Currently testing Limbo and Memmy, and both are looking good.

[–] andymccall 11 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Has anyone heard anything about BaconReader going Lemmy? I've used that since I discovered Reddit and was hoping I could carry on with it on Lemmy...

[–] teuast 4 points 2 years ago

I haven't, but I am also a longtime BaconReader reader so hopefully that can be carried over.

[–] BrollyLSSJ 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The list could maybe be updated. Seems to be that both devs of Limbo and Lemmynade joined forces to create Liftoff!.

[–] needthosepylons 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

And FYI, Liftoff allows users to search for posts and not just communities !

[–] HulkSmashBurgers 6 points 2 years ago

I saw that Sync and Slide were going to be ported. Didn't know about the rest. This is awesome!

[–] wilberfan 5 points 2 years ago

Around here, we refer to this as a "yay!".

[–] WidowsFavoriteSon 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'm on Comment. looking good!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

Link? Maybe OP will update their list to include it.

[–] Bonzo 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

But which ones are available without TestFlight for iOS?

[–] visualfeast 3 points 2 years ago

wefwef.app is, and feels native on my phone and ipad!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Why so little love for kbin?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Probably in part because there is no API yet. At least I hope that's a big part of it.

[–] moistclump 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I’m not as savvy with the technical… How do you even make an app without API? I thought it’s the thing that connects the stuff?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

It's not pretty, but you can simply download the web pages and parse the HTML instead (this is called scraping).
The main downside is that it breaks easily for even smaller changes in the HTML, so if kbin is updated, the apps may need an update to start working fully again.

[–] kabe 2 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Do any of them have a functioning compact post view yet?

[–] Durkinator 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Memmy's compact view is pretty solid.

[–] kabe 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Darn, and here's me on Android.

I know Jerboa has it, but I'm looking for an alternative.

[–] zabil 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Can you get Jerboa to work? It just crashes on my phone

[–] kabe 2 points 2 years ago

I get the occasional crash but it's generally workable most of the time.

[–] haulyard 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Mlem recently released an update with compact view that’s been well received. I’ve been using it for about two weeks and have enjoyed it. Note that there has been some hiccups on the developer side, with the main dev departing recently. The handover to other devs will slow down the release pace a little bit.

[–] kabe 2 points 2 years ago

Nice, thanks for the heads-up.

[–] DoctorTYVM 2 points 2 years ago

Which ones best?

[–] crypticthree 2 points 2 years ago (4 children)

Is anyone else having issues with Jerboa for android? It immediately crashes when I launch it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

yup. Just update it :D

[–] Holyginz 1 points 2 years ago

It does that some times for me. I think it's just growing pains and how quickly so many people are switching over. I have zero doubt that as time goes on the majority of the issues will be taken care of and things will get smoother.

[–] SMT42 1 points 2 years ago

I was having that issue until i managed to log in. It's been fine after that

[–] nichos 1 points 2 years ago

I think because the latest version is for lemmy 0.18 and the default instance is on 0.17. That's what i understood anyway.

[–] where_am_i 1 points 2 years ago

once Slide migrates to lemmy, I officially have no reason to miss reddit.

[–] Bonzo 1 points 2 years ago

This is pretty good!

[–] nydas 1 points 2 years ago

I’m using Memmy. It’s working well. I’m logged in using lemmy.world, but subscribed to kbin magazines.
