Do you make chainmail or is this work to restore/polish chainmail you own? Either way it's super cool!

I do make chainmail, but not this hauberk. So this was a galvanized hauberk I got on medieval collectibles. It was too shiny for the "grimdark" look I was going for, so I stripped the galvanization off and have been trying different methods to darken it. After the galvanization was removed there was nothing protecting it from rusting. For rust prevention We tried linseed oil, but we put too much on, it caked up, smelled terrible and was just bad over all. So we were burning off what was leff so I could just use gun oil to protect it.
