I'm going to be in the same shoes soon. I just bought a switch finally and started my play through of the remaster of the first one and they really hit it out of the park with it. I hope they follow up with the other two soon.
Best way for there to be one in the fediverse is to start one!
I'm a huge fan of the Metroid Prime games.
We could really use a general Metroidvania community here on the Fediverse.
I'm a big 2D Metroid guy! I've played them all. I recently joined r/Metroid but I wasn't in love with the gratuitous amount of Samus fanart.
I've always loved the level design of the sprawling 2D worlds. Can anyone who has played the 2D and 3D games sell me on Metroid prime?
For me, I'd just say that the atmosphere translated suuuper well into Prime (I haven't played Prime 2 or 3 yet, however). Soundtrack is excellent and is my favorite of the series so far.
I've been a fan of Metroid since the OG and Super Metroid is my favorite. I was skeptical of Prime when it came out back in the day, but I loved it. Really captures the lonely Metroid feel. And seeing a metroid in 3D for the first time was terrifying (even if they're not as powerful in Prime).
Also, shoutout to Axiom Verge, which captured the Metroid feel better than any other non-Metroid game, in my opinion.
The new Prime remaster has better controls, or if you emulate the GC version, there's a mod called PrimeHack that adds some quality of life features, like modern FPS controls.
Prime was pretty great at the time. The world is pretty well built, there's a ton of unlockable lore scattered around, and most of the mechanics are pretty satisfying. The map system is the same Metroid style, but in 3D it's a bit more tedious to navigate.
Definitely. I played Fusion as a kid and it's been one of my favorite series since. I'm still working on finishing the Prime Remaster, I got sidetracked by TotK. But I can't wait for Prime 4.
No.
Hell yeah! I still think about Metroid Prime every now and then. That’s an adventure that sticks with you.
… although I wouldn’t mind forgetting the fully-voice buddy characters from 3.
Not at all current... But i dusted off a retro-pi i made a few years back over the weekend, and started playing Super Metroid. This game is pretty damn old, and a masterpiece of design... I cannot get over how well they nailed the music, stylized graphics, and overall "sense of place"... It is a fine fine game.
Hope we aren't going into another decade+ wait time for a new game!
I love Metroid. I love Tool.
Which means I gotta enjoy what I get for the next 8-14 years
Me too. I’d subscribe.
I made /m/Metroid over on kbin.social a few days ago if anyone's interested
Metroid is awesome! I spent a ton of time exploring everything in Super Metroid. A few years back I played a fan-made Metroid called AM2R which was actually very good too.
Yeah I love Metroid! I prefer the 3D games - Metroid Prime Hunters is one that I don't hear much about but it was my first Metroid game and I remember having a blast with it. I played the original Metroid Prime recently (Primehack, not the remaster). Really incredible level design. I need to get round to playing 2 and 3!
Of the 2D games, I did enjoy Fusion and Dread. More than anything I love the genre it inspired - Hollow Knight for example is near perfect.
You could always create it! :)
I'm a fan but satisfied with dread
I’ve been playing metroid fusion on switch the last few nights! First time since on the gba way back.
Would love to see and a /c/metroid and /c/metroidvania
I like the saga as a concept, because sadly never played any of the games seriously, I mean, I have do some quick sessions of Metroid Zero Mission or Fusion back in the days, but I have never actually completed a single Metroid game.
What I used to do a ton was playing Metroid Prime Hunters online in the DS, the gameplay made me fell in love with it and it was by far the quickest first person shooter game of those days, luckily we can still play the game nowadays thanks to the custom servers.
Metroid is based! The first one I played all the way through was Metroid Prime 3, but have also played much of Prime 1 (not the remaster) and more recently played Metroid Zero Mission, Metroid II with a color mod, and Super Metroid. Super Metroid is one of the best games I've ever played, it's truly incredible, though in a way Metroid II might be my second favorite 2D Metroid I've played so far.
I was playing Metroid Prime on my Steam Deck but haven't picked up for a few months and sort of questioning if I should play the remaster or continue with my current save file on my Steam Deck. As far as 2D, I intend on playing Metroid Fusion next, and then Dread.
I love Metroid! Soon going to be playing through the switch remake once I’m done with some of my backlog
Yup! I grew up playing Super Metroid on the SNES and played Fusion in college on the GBA. When Dread was announced, I decided to play through the 2D games chronologically in anticipation, with AM2R substituting for Samus Returns, and finishing up with Dread. Looking forward to the next installment!
