I wish these regulations would have shorter timeframes. It does not take 4 years to add a removeable battery. Decrease it to 2 years

Feel ya . but i guess they need to leave the companys time to plan new phones and processes and i guess the next line up is already pretty much done so they obviously cant force companys to scrap those
I imagine it's much more complicated than just having an openable case. I don't think it's an unfair timeframe, it's just unfortunate we got to this point to begin with.
Fairphone has existed since like 2015 or before so anyone else would be late to the game
True, but it's a fairly mediocre phone.
Probably. Now that it's a legal requirement there may be a rush to be the first to offer it as a feature. Spin it so they're doing this by choice for the consumer rather than being forced.
Yeah, that's what happened when the EU banned mobile roaming charges while traveling within the EU. All the networks advertised it as if it was something they were choosing to do for the good of the customers. Of course, as soon as the UK left the EU, most of the networks have bought the charges back (including "Three" who had actually had free roaming for long before it was required)
The marketing will be particularly ironic since nearly all of the current companies made phones with removable batteries as recently as five years ago.
The Samsung XCover's and few of the Nokia C's already have removable batteries.
Yeah my phone is about 5 years old right now, and I'm wondering if I can keep it alive til 2027 so my next one can have a removable battery. My current one is not too hard to replace the battery (have to undo a lot of tiny screws and some double sided tape, but nowhere near as bad as an iphone). But it's the principle.
@solrize @Evono there's always a galaxy xcover if it's available in your region.

Good point, though the current version of that phone is quite expensive and the older versions were not very good. I'm not a power user, I just want a basic cheap phone with a headphone jack and replaceable battery, that I can keep using for a while. A phone powered by 18650's would be great. I do know about the Xcover and have stayed somewhat aware of it for when my current phone finally craps out.
@solrize yeah its a real pain in the ass finding ordinary useable phones that don't miss out on what used to be standard features😢
If only my country gave a shit about consumer protection. It's already normalized for some manufacturers to sell much better European models than what we get here, I except this will be no different.
