Does it exist? I hoped i would find some Android Based MP3 players without wireless and aux only... The only other options i found where some SBCs that support android like the AML-S905X-CC, but i assume its kinda finicky geting a Touchscreen working on them.

If you want to go the AML SBC route, check out https://nexdock.com/

They are portable touch screen monitors, and if your lucky, its at most a USB + HDMI to get the touch screen working. They'll also supply power to your SBC, which might help the portability aspect.

You can get similar portable monitors from Aliexpress as well.

Edit: just realised they now have WiFi. The nexpad has no WiFi, otherwise look for other portable monitors.

Best bet is to buy a tablet device and then unsolder the radio

[–] [email protected] 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I took a look into those "toy" tablets in the 40 bucks price range, most of them seam to have a clearly visible Wireless chipset for wifi/bt, guess ima try to desolder and hope it still boots after.

If the chip isn't bga then you can cut the pins, if it is a bga you can use a heat gun to get it to separate

I got a hotair soldering station ima try my best :D But i think most of the cheap ones arent bga but look like this one:

Nope

Closest thing is the Librem5, which had addon modems, so you could dismantle it and remove the bt/wifi/modem

The Librem5 would be perfect, if it wasnt for the price

You can also run Bliss OS on x64 desktop. Works well on my 2-in-1 ThinkPad L390 Yoga. It also supports ARM emulation to run ARM apps.
You can also rip out wireless stuff from many of those.

Android on PC sounds good, the power consumption would be high tho, and i would prefer a smaller form factor. But a old netbook mainboard + bliss OS could be small enough.

Waydroid on a linux laptop with the wifi adapter removed is option 2

[–] solrize 2 points 20 hours ago

I'd say forget Android and just use a Linux board.

Why dont you buy some mp3 that is supported by rockbox

[–] [email protected] 1 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Does it need to be android? Could use any ol SBC as a music client for a music server like MusicAssistant. No screen required.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 16 hours ago

I am looking for a solution that can run AndFLmsg, sure i could just run Fldigi on a RPi but the solution has to be usable for people who need a simple interface. Using a SBC to emulate Android apps with Waydroid would also be a option but i try to keep the emulation layers to a minimum for power consumption reasons.

Why? What is your use case?

[–] BigMikeInAustin 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Keeping the device turned on while the airplane is ascending and descending.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Sure, but a device with no radios is gonna be an uphill struggle to get anything useful onto as well. And airlines let you use a tablet/phone during ascent and descent right now, there is no need to remove the radios or use airplane mode anymore.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 16 hours ago

U can put apps and data on it via USB otg, that wont be a problem.

So like an airgapped device? Have you considered getting a cheap off the shelf tablet and cutting the antennas? It wont connect to WiFi or BT anymore after that?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Cutting the antennas is far from removing the problem, even without antennas those chips still make a lot of noise in the 2.4ghz band. Id woud have the desolder the whole wireless chipset, i mean i have the soldering equipment for that, but i kinda doubt that a normal android will even boot after the Wireless chipset is gone :/

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 hours ago

I think you've been underspecifying the problem a bit :) You dont want any 2.4ghz signals at all? Does airplane mode still give off 2.4ghz noise? Are you sure the noise is from the WiFi chip, and not the CPU?
