We just got white castle, and i am very happy with it. It plays fast, it is thinky, not a huge pain to set up, and on top of everything, it was very reasonably priced. 10/10 purchase.

I own board games, I don't play them.

Nothing this week, but last week my wife and I finally finished up a game of Paper Dungeons after having it out on the table for a month and a half, lol. It's nice that you can drop it and just pick it up again whenever but we took way too long to get back to it.

We still need to play a game with the side quest expansion ruleset and play sheets. I'm hoping it's even more fun because all the cards look so cool. I like that it also includes cards for things in the base game that previously didn't have cards, like the artifacts.

This weekend's game night was Betrayal at House on the Hill and then Concept afterwards. It was a great time!

Betrayal is my go to

unfortunately none. but back with my pnp rpg group I was almost more excited when enough folks could not make it and we did impromtu boardgame night.

Hadn't played in months but last night we played Dominant Species and then Puerto Rico.

Was fun to play again. We had been on a years long kick of Terraforming Mars (because I fucking love it) so I said not that one this time.

Wingspan, it’s fun, there are a lot of different mechanics to figure out

How do your last 3 turns of wingspan play out? For us it usually is every player just gathering eggs because no other action has any impact before the games closes. Feels really bad after the whole game was such wonderful growth

On the last turn I calculate the points for each move… so usually that or caching or producing eggs, depending on where my cards are.

Had a game afternoon this past weekend. Broke out:

And a couple of simpler games to allow for general socializing and relaxing:

How was Wyrmspan as its own game and compared to Wingspan?

[–] sylver_dragon 2 points 14 hours ago

I've not played Wingspan, so I can't really compare the two. On it's own, I like Wyrmspan. Though, it's almost like each player is playing their own game and you just compare points at the end to see who did the best. To the point that, during one turn we had two players end up with a few extra actions to complete, and the third player got up from the table and walked off for a bit, without much of a worry that his game would be effected by the other two doing stuff.

Bought an Exit game and Aeons End Legacy of Gravehold. Played the exit game first day, but we're going to go through a few sessions of other games we own before we dive into the Legacy game.

Currently in the middle of Intrepid, playing as Canada and Russia.

How do you like Exit games? I'm interested in trying one but concerned about replayability. Do you feel like it's worth the price despite the fact that you may never play it again?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 hours ago

I definitely get the concern, it does not have any real replayability, being puzzles that you destroy as you play. I remember us talking about the price to playtime ratio after the first game, and deciding that it was "cheaper than going to the movies, and more enjoyable". For us it's like a treat, we usually buy one when we go to the board game shop, we're excited about it on our way home, and we finish it that evening.

This was our third exit game, we've been getting the same nominal difficulty. We're a bit more familiar with the common tricks now, and we finish the game a bit faster, but every game has something different and interesting, the individual puzzles have pretty consistently nice quality, so it's still very enjoyable to play.

Got in a game of Great Western Trail NZ. I don't think we played optimally, very few buildings built and didn't get far down the ship track, but at least we've got the rules down now.

Also a game of Gaia Project with Lost Fleets. Somehow I always end up isolated in one corner of the galaxy...

This is how I learn. Just start playing. Go through the motions, take some turns and see how everything comes together!
