A community to satirize conservtive and right-wing "ideals".

This community (now) exists as a pressure valve, a place to process through humor the often frustrating world of conservative politics. Above all, this is NOT the place for serious conservative support/viewpoints/arguments. There are other places on Lemmy for that if you desire it.

Rules:

  1. Always follow .world instance rules

  2. Parody With Purpose: This is a space for humorous takes on conservative politics. We welcome satire, but draw the line at content that promotes racism, sexism, homophobia, or other forms of bigotry.

  3. Memes Over Manifestos: This community focuses on humor and parody, not serious political debate. There are plenty of spaces for earnest conservative discussion, this isn’t one of them.

  4. Highlight Contradictions: Sometimes the best content points out inconsistencies and hypocrisies in conservative talking points. Creative commentary is encouraged.

  5. Public Figures Fair Game: Politicians and pundits can be satirized, but no targeting of private individuals, doxxing, or harassment.

Children of public figures under the age of 14 are also off-limits, a 16 year old has enough free agency to break with or adopt their parents views. An 8 year old kid doesn't.

  1. No News Zone: Memes only, news or other serious content should be sent to the nearest relevant comm. Meme's of current events, however, are encouraged.

  2. Clear Satire: Make your satirical intent reasonably clear. We’re here to mock bad ideas, not accidentally spread them. If you're unsure how it will be taken, feel free to DM the mod team ahead of time or explicitly tag it as satire in the body.

A note on ChadMcTruth: Chad's content is 100% satire, but his work can sometimes be hard to tell, but if he posted it be assured, its satire.

  1. Relevant Content: All posts should relate to conservative politics or ideologies in some way somewhere in your post. Either in the title or the meme itself.

For more general political memes please see [email protected]

  1. Community Respect: Disagree with fellow members all you want, but personal attacks aren’t welcome. Save the criticism for the ideas, not each other.

  2. Moderation Discretion: Mods will use reasonable judgment in applying these rules. We’ll be fair, but firm. These kinds of comms have a tendency to get off the rails, so we might seem overzealous in moderation sometimes.

  3. For the moment, i'm allowing properly tagged NSFW content as long as its funny and relevant. Don't make me regret it.

And above all, HAVE FUN!

MODERATORS

Taking a look at what gets upvoted and what is downvoted to oblivion, it's quite clear what the community at large wants.

We don't want [email protected] to be just another "serious conservative comm" any longer, they have whole instances dedicated to their kind of "free speech" and other comms as well.

So to that end I have thrown my hat in the ring to be mod and steer this comm to be what people want it to be so show your support at https://lemmy.world/post/25837943

I have also typed out a proposed draft set of rules to keep things from "going off the rails":

  1. Parody With Purpose: This is a space for humorous takes on conservative politics. We welcome satire, but draw the line at content that promotes racism, sexism, homophobia, or other forms of bigotry.
  1. Memes Over Manifestos: This community focuses on humor and parody, not serious political debate. There are plenty of spaces for earnest conservative discussion—this isn't one of them.
  1. Highlight Contradictions: The best content points out inconsistencies and hypocrisies in conservative talking points. Creative commentary is encouraged.
  1. Public Figures Fair Game: Politicians and pundits can be satirized, but no targeting of private individuals, doxxing, or harassment.
  1. No News Zone: Memes only, news should be sent to the nearest relevant comm
  1. Clear Satire: Make your satirical intent reasonably clear. We're here to mock bad ideas, not accidentally spread them.
  1. Relevant Content: All posts should relate to conservative politics or ideologies in some way.
  1. Community Respect: Disagree with fellow members all you want, but personal attacks aren't welcome. Save the criticism for the ideas, not each other.
  1. Moderation Discretion: Mods will use reasonable judgment in applying these rules. We'll be fair, but firm.
  1. Remember The Purpose: This community exists as a pressure valve—a place to process through humor the often frustrating world of conservative politics.

Still its disturbing that breitbart articles, an OG nazi propaganda outlet, are allowed on lemmy.world

[–] cm0002 31 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I think this comm was the only one of import that allowed them, if I become a mod they will be swiftly removed from here. (I mean I'll be removing all the news links as per my proposed draft rules, but I'll be removing Breitbart with extra glee lol)

Cm0002 for presi...eh mod!

[–] scaredoftrumpwinning 3 points 1 week ago

I'm glad someone is seriously considering this. It would be nice to moderate the garbage they think is true. If they want lies and hate there's plenty of places to get that from. I just hope you can withstand the hate coming to your inbox. If you get it good luck.

I still think conservatives deserve a place on Lemmy and in Lemmy.world where incivility and misinformation can be properly moderated.

The pervious mods of the conservative communities have proven they can’t be fair and unbiased.

If you look at their hilariouschaos community you can see they are still heavy-handed and thin-skinned more apt to moderate based on feelings than fact.

I’m still volunteering to run this and/or lemm.ee’s community as a proper conservative community.

The problem is I don’t think the userbase does. Since the community was created, content was downvoted and negative conversations took place within it.

The TOS clearly states “Lemmy.World specifically forbids any sort of discrimination against queer groups on this site” yet Conservative political policy does appear to be discriminating against queer groups thus a Conservative community is, per TOS, not allowed to discuss and support their own party’s policies.

I agree with you in sentiment, SatansMaggotyCumFart, that this instance should be accepting and welcoming of political discussion with those of opposing views.

That said, current opposing views go strongly against the views upon which this instance was founded.

For that reason, and it seems clear the userbase also agrees, I believe it would be in the interest of this instance to repurpose this community into one where Conservatism can be discussed through the perspective of the userbase we have. And that seems to be memes that critique conservatism.

I agree with fartsparkles who agrees with SatansMaggotyCumFart

edit, that was a joke for the names but I kinda disagree ...ish. I don't think actual conservatives that come in good faith really exist
It would have like 2 people that post stuff that gets tons of downvotes, like every conservative sub on Lemmy so far. I don't see how it would be any different to what has already been tried 🤷‍♀️

where incivility and misinformation can be properly moderated. The pervious mods of the conservative communities have proven they can’t be fair and unbiased.

Removing incivility and misinformation would just mean no posts. I have never once seen any conservative community actually discuss free market trade or effective use of tax dollars. It is always just a safe haven for trolls spreading hate, acting in bad faith, and hiding behind "free speech" and "different opinions".

I'm sure the conservatives can and will have civil discussions based in fact.

Good, fair and balanced moderation.

[–] HasturInYellow 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

In a conservative forum...? Uh-huh. Are there fairies and unicorns there too?

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart 1 points 1 week ago

They’d be welcome to participate too if they’re civil and don’t deny large groups of people basic human rights.

[–] cm0002 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I see your point, but last I saw there were (excluding .worlds one) 2 "proper" conservative comms and 2 instances (comms on .ee, SJW and for instances HilariousChaos and iirc reddthat) and those are just what showed up from a quick search which is kinda unreliable sometimes so there are likely more

The way I envisioned it was that eventually would try to reign in one of the others and this one would just be the parody meme comm focused on conservatives (globally too! Conservative ideals aren't just confined to the US) with [email protected] serving as a more generalist political meme comm and .ee/SJWs versions serving as the "proper/ serious" comms (should reasonable conservative talking point be found)

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart 3 points 1 week ago

Start a conservative parody community, then.

You can call it The Lemmy Report.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 week ago (2 children)

imagine being a conservative. the jokes write themselves

How can you tell the difference?

[–] Delta_V 30 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

That's the neat part:
You can't!

Conservatism is an unserious ideology - an auto-satirizing parody of itself.

"Things were better when they were worse!" 🤡 💩

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

The whole idea of conservativism is to hold us back and slow us down, mfs hate on ppl from the dark ages but love being conservative

[–] cm0002 13 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Lemmy conservatives aren't exactly quiet, at worst a quick look at their profile will tell you if they're being serious or not

Plus, proposed rule 6: Clear Satire: Make your satirical intent reasonably clear.

So if I truly can't tell, you'll be asked to clarify or it'll be removed

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Please be generous in applying that rule and rather delete than let something vile stand.

Far too many things start as just a joke and then other people join and don't think it's a joke and then you get something like r/thedonald.

[–] cm0002 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Oh I know, I've been on Reddit for a long time so I know how quickly it can devolve without good care

I will definitely be leaning "better safe than sorry". Removed posts can always be restored if it was truly satire, damage done from a serious hateful post left up too long cant

[–] stopdropandprole 2 points 1 week ago

this is a valid concern. ty for mentioning.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I like it. And have subscribed. I was seeing these these posts, hesitantly clicked, finding m/conservative to be humorous, and encouraging.

[–] cm0002 5 points 1 week ago

Thanks! Hopefully I'll become a mod and keep the memes flowing lol

[–] chonglibloodsport 8 points 1 week ago

I think the truth is there are hardly any actual conservatives around here and in general there are barely any ideological conservatives at all. Most people are conservative for reasons other than reason (religion, family, local community, etc).

What’s more shocking to me are the number of conflict theorists around here.

It seems to me that no matter how serious, any present day "conservative" community will at the very least be constantly confused with Satire. In fact the more serious the participants are about it, the more likely that is to happen.

Self-satire is a genuine problem of what passes for a Conservative Ideology nowadays.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Clear Satire: Make your satirical intent reasonably clear. We’re here to mock bad ideas, not accidentally spread them.

Personally I really dislike most political 'parody' content and discussion because if I'm only getting a very distorted strawman version of an idea, that's not doing me any favors in being able to argue against the real thing, or being clear on what about it I might object to. If you're going to regard bad ideas as infohazards that can't be viewed as they are, there's not much point in talking about them at all.

[–] ChadMcTruth 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

iabt

edit that means i agree big time i think rule 6 is stupid

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago

The only rule I have an "issue" with is rule #3.

"Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect."

Only one side cares about hypocrisy and it isn't conservatives. Pointing it out doesn't really provide meaningful parody, IMO.

I think rule 5 should be clarified that there should be no news links. Memes to current events, I suspect, would be welcome.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

There used to be a satirical Facebook group called "Christians for Michelle Bachman" that was fucking hilarious. I hope this community turns into something like that.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

I've emailed them before the request was even made, and those mfs left me on read 😞

OP if you need more mods let me know, I'll be more than glad to lmao xd
