Summary

Moscow warns that Western companies that left Russia after its invasion of Ukraine will face consequences if they return.

Russian industry minister Anton Alikhanov stated, "There will be a price to pay for past decisions," emphasizing a focus on domestic and Eurasian partners.

Nearly 475 firms, including McDonald's and Ikea, exited following sanctions, though some may consider returning post-war.

Experts note that political, reputational, and economic challenges—amid ongoing inflation, tight monetary policy, and Putin’s authoritarian control—will likely deter a rapid re-entry by Western companies.

Fucking collapse already

[–] jaggedrobotpubes 2 points 3 hours ago

Yeah, so many high fives that their shoulders get thrown out. Damn expensive physical therapy and your price to pay!

[–] hark 27 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

Good idea threatening people who would want to do business with you, especially when your economy isn't worth investing in even without the threats.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 8 hours ago

It probably won't stop the likes of McDonald's or Coke from coming back. They smell money and won't be swayed by petty things like threats.

[–] Doomsider 5 points 8 hours ago

You would think, but Muskrat told all the advertisers to fuck off and now they are slowly crawling back to him.

There will be a price to pay for past decisions

Yeah, that price is that no sane economy will invest in Russia as long as they are scum. They have proven that they don't care about contracts, sovereignty, territorial borders and human dignity.

Don't underestimate the greed of the oligarchs and capitalism, they really don't care if a scum country like russia is making war to oppress, as soon as this fucking dictator stops the war, they will return with their millions to keep business as usual with russia

[–] [email protected] 3 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

that could describe multiple countries at the moment

[–] drmoose 4 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Fuck this ruzi propaganda mentality - oh oh everyone's bad, it's just how it is, so we can be bad and invade Ukraine, it's just how it is.

Stop spreading this shit. Most countries and places around the world are not even close to shithole status of ruzzia

i was just going off of the list

[–] [email protected] 49 points 15 hours ago

So don't return?

[–] [email protected] 70 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

if they return

Well, easy solution for that I guess.

[–] SlopppyEngineer 16 points 14 hours ago

It´s corporations so it´s easy. If the profits to be gained are larger than the price to pay, they´ll return. But with Russia willing to attack Europa and corps getting sanctioned, it might not be that profitable.

[–] DicJacobus 27 points 14 hours ago

Anyone who goes back to Russia absolutely deserves to be bent over a barrel and violated by Russia until the end of time.

stupid games, stupid prizes.

[–] someguy3 30 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (1 children)

Talking as if Russia isn't going to continue to be sanctioned. Yes I know that's different, but I think the sentiment is fuck Russia and why bother with Russia. Add in any other "price to pay" just furthers why bother.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Eh, the sentiment has always been 'fuck russia', it's a pain. If someone comes up with a good reason to reenter the russian markets and everyone think it's profitable and legal enough to get away with, they'll bring it up at their company and will probably be successful, but a lot of us are very happy we didn't have to worry about that for a few years.

This statement is driving down the perceived profitability though, so probably bought us a bit more time.

[–] someguy3 1 points 14 hours ago

There is only so much effort companies can do, they might just continue their focus on other markets.

Looks like he noticed a bunch of American companies developed a real taste for boot leather recently.

[–] hark 1 points 8 hours ago

Corporations have always loved the boot, hence fascism.

Russian politicians behaving like business and politics work the same way teenage relationships do.

Foreign firms are probably not rushing back to Russia either

It would be pretty stupid top go back, Russia is even more corrupt and lawless than it was before the war.
It's an extremely poor environment for serious business.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

According to this guy, foreign companies never left Russia, they just changed their name.

That's not true, lots of companies left, some even at great cost.
Some remained under local names, I think for instance Coco Cola.
We've seen recordings of shopping malls where many shops were gone, and many of the remaining shops sold obvious counterfeit western brands.
Also a lot of business is decidedly illegal to continue in Russia due to sanctions.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 13 hours ago

You can see almost empty malls across the entire Europe nowadays, not everyone likes that commercial model and sometimes they were built in not very thoroughly evaluated places. They've been even converted to apartments recently

[–] [email protected] 6 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

How much could it cost? $10?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 14 hours ago (1 children)
[–] ms_lane 1 points 4 hours ago

There is always USD in the Banana Republic Stand.

There'll be a price to pay if they return, alright.

Damn, Pooty-poot you're up your own ass real good there.
