Welcome to the club. Get reading to spend whatever is left of your savings at bunnings Edit: OH! And sorry, just a heads up. At least 2 of the following will fail in the next 12 months. No your house is not cursed. No one can explain WHY it happens: Hotplates, Hot water unit, Oven, Dishwasher, or a shower leak.

Hi everyone, long time no see :-)

I've been absent for a bit - I think I crashed a bit after Covid, but I am alive and well and getting back on track.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 6 days ago (1 children)

It's good to hear from you! I was worried you'd joined the many who have departed for one reason or another. I hope you're able to take things easy for a while.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 6 days ago (2 children)

It was a bit weird - I thought I was better, but I just couldn't be bothered doing anything. Then I actually got better and realised I hadn't actually been completely well after all! A bit like having a dream that you woke up, and then actually waking up.

I love when the government calls on a private number and asks me to confirm my name, DOB, address, etc. "Absolutely not, I have no way of confirming who you are". They seem shaken by the response. Given their atrocious security protocol there's no way I'm giving a private number any of that info.

Got some crap news last night.

Very Sad don't read if your not up to itThe animal rescue reached out to us the other week to ask if we'd noticed anything wrong with Jill (the rescue kitten). Apparently she had some balance issues or trouble using a back leg. We were sort of steeling ourselves that she might come back to us (we told them if she had any trouble finding a home she was always welcome with us.) They were talking her to the vet to get checked over.

We hadn't heard anything so followed up yesterday only to find she didnt make it. She passed shortly after we spoke to them the other week. They dont know exactly what was wrong, but she apparently had some issues. We are shattered. She wasnt even our cat but..... fuck man. just.... fuck.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 6 days ago

You gave her the best you could mate. I'm sorry to hear what's happened ❤️

[–] [email protected] 9 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Oh that is so sad. Many many hugs. I've been watching their lists waiting for her to pop up! But she had warmth, comfort, food and peace which she would not have had without you.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 6 days ago

same! I even set up a damn facebook again. I was so excited seeing those guys adopted last week but was starting to get a bit worried. I thought maybe they'd renamed her or something. but yeah. Guess we were her last home.

Had a long day so broke my 2025 rule of no grog on a weeknight and shouted myself a little wine and hour looking at the waves. Such a beautiful evening

I got a bit more news. For the morbidly curious I guess.

More Sad Stuffturns out she had too many genetic faults, Nothing anyone could have done. She wasnt in pain. Thank Christ. I was terrified her previous owner had abused her or we'd failed her in some way. The rescue wont tell us what the vet bill costs so they are just getting a donation in her memory.

Sounds like you gave a kitty with a pre-set bad life a few moments of kindness.

I'm glad you know the cause and know that you did your best for the little soul.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 6 days ago

yeah I makes it a lot more tolerable that she always had a finite amount of time and all that could be done was done. makes the time we spent all the more precious.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

That’s rough. Poor little girl. At least she was receiving care and indoors. For the short time she had she was fed and loved

kinda sad Geoffrey the dog updateHe has more purple lumps. He has also lost quite a bit of weight and isn't eating much. Also also vomiting bile. Lacks energy. His liver function wasn't too good a couple of weeks ago.

The vet were going to do surgery today to remove the lumps, but the last lump was quite expensive to remove. Multiply that amount by eight lumps and my aunt could not afford it.

So they called my aunt and they didn't do the surgery because they think something underlying is going on. He will be getting a blood test today and then an ultrasound when the consultant can come come in.

That's him on the right with my aunt's other dog

Sitting in a new area at work and people are super friendly.

My usual grumpy self is suffering silently but somehow enjoying this.

Made it down the bellarine today. Had a subsurface leak last Monday (blehg) so all the watering was off. Good thing I did go as the chillies were looking a bit sad. But interestingly the patio flowers didn't flinch.

Was expecting worse than that.

I went to a talk about the food and beverage industry this morning. The topic of these things is always AI, and the people who hype it the most feel like people who understand it the least.

There was one example that was quite useful, but it technically falls under machine learning. However, a lot of machine learning has been rebranded as AI because that's the hot thing at the moment.

Okay so I've always had this problem with the hot water tap in the shower where if you turn it far right enough it turns on again and goes to full blast (not an analogy for conspiracy theorists, I promise). I have usually been able to turn it to just the right point to get it to stop running without starting again.

However as of the last 3 days or so the showerhead has been dripping incessantly and getting worse and worse. Right now it's a constant trickle. Even if I turn off the tap as much as possible and turn the shower head upside down. ~~I tried to turn it off completely at the mains and IT STILL WONT TURN OFF (and I can see it's my meter for sure as when I have the tap running I can see the mini meter spinning).~~ update: I was an idiot and turned the mains tap the wrong way, it took a lot of turning to go completely off but I managed to shut it down thankfully.

This is beyond an attempt to DIY fix the shower tap, right? Contact the REA asap instead? The main bother is the dripping at night as I can't sleep (E: not without turning off hot water at the mains each time). Nobody's charged me for hot water so far so that's not the issue ... It would be costing the owner a lot though I imagine

E: email sent. Making it sound as dire as possible. Basically either I have increasing dripping or no hot water. I hope they get someone in asap, but it's the same REA who didn't even respect the law and tried to arrange an inspection 2 months into a 6 month lease, so...

Alrighty. The 2nd referee was just over to catch up and has completed his part of the form.

Let's see what happens. I was worried that letting him use my computer to do the reference check might put up some red flags but we'll see what happens.
