Apparently, I am a former Hexbear regular, so you can imagine I am very much extremely upset about this and will not in any way laugh my ass off when they lose the Chapo domain name too because that would definitely for sure be a bad thing for the glorious revolution when Xi and Vlad will finally take their rightful places as emperors of the universe.

That thread is just annoying haha. Just to fuck with him you should post that picture of the pig with shit on it's balls, dude might have an aneurysm.

And I thought 500$ was too much! I wonder if the hexbear admins are still trying to keep up with the 'we are trying to win the bid to get back the domain' bit or if they already peaced out and took the L. Is it just people with 2k to burn having a meme of a bid war? What happens if nobody pays up? At least on storage wars theres the small lottery hope of something valuable making it worth buying others trash. Here you know exactly what you're getting and it aint a great deal to me. Maybe some consider trolling tankies or the possibility of running a MITM attack against them is a treasure worth the 2k?

https://hexbear.io/

There's a cryptocurrency called Hexbear, that's why someone is willing to spend this much money on it.

Thanks, from what ive been reading that seems like a good possibility. I like to think theres still a solid 50 50 chance its either the crypto bro who owns hexbear coin, or just some guy with too much money and zero fucks out for petty keks. I guess well see with the new website the domain redirects to either its gonna shill the coin or it will direct memes mocking tankies. With the world we live in, maybe even both!

I knew I had heard of hexbear before I joined lemmy that explains it.

What happened with hexbear?

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

basically, old admin flaked out, but psyched out current admins thinking they would be able to get domain access to prevent this, so they did not finish developing their plan for when this happened.

Lmao that's hilarious. Hexbear went state capitalist lol

That FSB group has apparently been reassigned.

They should have it redirect to the DNC website.

Whoever loses, we win?

I can't think of anything that would make the Hexbear domain worth more than a couple of quarters with dried soda syrup on them, but whether grifter, troll, or tankie, several someones, it would seem, think it's worth something more than that.

If it's a troll, they should use their powers for good, make it a redirect to donate to the defense of Ukraine.

Supposedly it's a shit coin so cryptobros have a vested interest.

It's also a domain with traffic, once a domain with traffic expires/is released it gets huge premiums tacked on it

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

really any previously owned domain get a premium. I lost a few I had when google stopped hosting them I wasn't doing anything with them but they are like 100$ instead of the like 10 they were before.

Interesting thought. At the current price, this is significantly less than my yearly charitable giving.
