Why? WHY!

How is someone's life so small that they spend their time getting angry about another person's differently-colored skin‽ Or their goddamn genitals!

I hope the next plague kills us all. We don't deserve the beauty of life.

MAGAts are whiny morons. They're also borderline obsessed with other people to the point that they should probably be on a list or something. Tracked at the very least.

Source: I grew up in the South, Alabama specifically.

There's an asteroid that MIGHT hit earth in 2032, so we can look forward to that ( it's only at a 2.2% right now).

Only big enough to kill a city. Sorry.

[–] pennomi 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

When it gets closer (~2028 probably) we’ll know which city to travel to when the time comes.

We gotta get those numbers up

[–] FlyingSquid 4 points 2 days ago

We can convince SpaceX to attempt to deflect it. Then it will definitely hit the Earth.

Don't Look Up is a documentary.

There are good people in your life. Share good things with them and try to be as good to them as you can. Social media only amplifies the negative. Things are bad right now, but not all bad. Don't despair.

I know it's cheesy, but I really believe it: love is the answer.

That just feels like sticking your head in the sand to me.

[–] Late2TheParty 3 points 2 days ago

I appreciate you. Thank you!

Personally I don't want my calander cluttered. I also am annoyed with June 19th. They misspelled it on my calendar app and it's not a company holiday. I can't remove it.

The better point would be to have google let you delete holidays and events from the calendar if you want to. Let the decision be in the users hands.

The company doesn't care about you.

The company doesn't care about you.

The company doesn't care about you.

They also renamed Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America in Google maps, at least for USA users.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 days ago (2 children)
[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

They already removed the report an issue button. Had to report a travel issue when trying to travel to Gulf of Mexico

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

Omg we need to get a post going to get people to do this. It would make me so happy to see them get spammed with this.

[–] homura1650 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

For me it shows "Golf of America" unless you zoom out, in which case it shows "Golf of Mexico (Golf of America)"

Google Maps l screenshot showing the "Golf of Mexico (Golf of America)"

Edit: something is being silly and not letting me post 2 different pictures, so here is the zoomed out one.

[–] homura1650 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

Now ask google or siri "where is the golf of mexico?" Let me know what it says.

[–] TrendigOsthyvel 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

In Sweden the map now says both, "(american gulf)" after the Mexican gulf.

Name a free, good alternative

[–] drapermache 12 points 2 days ago

That's the thing, you'll have to de Google your entire life, which is really involved and tedious , especially if you want free alternatives. Not saying it's impossible, but you're talking about ditching a lot of services. Realistically, there aren't good alternatives to YouTube and some other services. I know people will try to pitch fediverse alternatives. While promising, the problem is that the historical content that is really useful just isn't there. Additionally, it fails in comparison in terms the amount of content offered. It sucks to see Google bend the knee so easily.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 days ago

NextCloud.

And you can argue how it's different, and that's the point! You want something different, right? ... Right?

Fossify calendar

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

It's usually included in any email setup.

I think most paid email providers also include calendar, contacts, etc. I know Proton does, but I also know their CEO is praising the 4th Reich, so I dunno.

You can also self host something.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Self hosting email is a dead end, you'll spend half your free time trying to get your domain not marked as spam by every other email service provider.

[–] otacon239 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

The other half of your time will be spent filtering through spam

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

Filtering spam is a long solved problem and completely trivial. I receive no spam on my self hosted email, and I spend no time at all working on that.

My old unused gmail account however.... I recently logged in after more than a year. The spam folder had about 40 emails in it, and the inbox had more than 8000, all of which were spam. Google over self hosting is not a solution to spam.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I was referring to self hosting a calendar service per the original post

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

Disroot.org nextcloud
