Manitoba Progressive Conservative Party leadership candidate Wally Daudrich joked to a group of party members this week he could reduce homelessness in Winnipeg by letting polar bears loose downtown.

Daudrich, who operates ecotours to view polar bears east of Churchill, on the coast on Hudson Bay, made the comment as a joke during an appearance at a Winnipeg hotel on Wednesday night.

"We have a homeless crisis here in Winnipeg. I always say where I come from in Churchill, we don't have any homeless people. Anybody take a guess why?" he asked, eliciting laughs.

"When there are serious repercussions for a bad lifestyle, people smarten up very quickly. So my plan is to import 10 polar bears and let them go in front of the Ledge," Daudrich said, referring to the Manitoba Legislature.

Who knew the cure for mental illness, disabilities, trauma was being threatened by being eaten. So, by that logic, the cure for a psychopath politician is a hungry electorate? Eat the rich.

When a Conservative shows you who they are, believe them.

Always! And especially in this moment.

Isn't that a threat of violence? Because it sounds like a threat of violence.

Pretty sure threats of violence are punishable. Ya wanna walk that back, Mr. Daudrich?

The meritocracy myth isn't dying fast enough.

OK, look Canada, I was convinced by your Maple Leaves, your Syrup, your hospitality, your health care for all. WTF is a progressive conservative? You move forward on odd numbered days, and backward on even numbered days?

And yeah, it would be great if you would consider housing the homeless, rather than leaving them to POLAR BEARS. Cruelty does not become you.

It's just a name. They're right-wingers.

In Ontario, it means "evil, but a bit too stupid to be too evil".

Luckily, the ruling NDP government in Manitoba has a competent plan to end homelessness called Your Way Home.

Dang! That looks legit! Go Manitoba!

They are a party member of the progressive conservative party (this one is specific to that province). It's just conservative with a disingenuous name.

Sure buddy, as long as you offer your house as shelter and stock it with fish so the bears don't starve!
