Pretty sure Ukraine would agree to some deal on that- especially if the US went all in on arming them.

https://eadaily.com/en/ampnews/2024/08/13/zelensky-is-ready-to-give-the-usa-rare-earth-metals-of-ukraine-senators-asked

"The United States is ready to take control of the reserves of rare earth metals on Ukraine, and Vladimir Zelensky agrees. This [was] stated in a joint statement by US Senators Richard Blumenthal and Lindsey Graham*, who visited Kiev [last August]."

This is just another example of Trump announcing "deals" which were negotiated before he was in office. The trade war with Mexico was postponed due to Mexico promising to do something they were already doing. I'm guessing the same happened with Canada but didn't look into it.

Thwy should tell russia and us that whoever wins the war between them gets the materials.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 16 hours ago

That’s essentially what’s happening already. Everybody knows it’s a proxy war.

I need a word stronger than β€œhate”. Someone help me out.

[–] CallMeButtLove 2 points 7 hours ago

There's no word. So instead of being concise I'll do the opposite. I unequivocally hate him beyond the capacity for words. I detest him more than anyone can fathom. I think he is a vile, wretched pile of dog puke. I hope every time he looks up a bird shits in his mouth. If I found out tomorrow that he died a 12 hour long agonizing death from some brand new undiscovered condition I would be simultaneously elated at his suffering and utterly disappointed that it didn't last twice as long. I hope something comes along that changes him for the better and he finally learns the joy of loving something more than himself. Then I hope fate rips that away in the cruelest fashion, leaving him to spend the rest of his days a weeping and broken husk. He deserves worse than even the darkest, most Eldritch horror can bestow upon him.

There are a few deaths that will make me smirk, maybe a few that will make me grin. There are very few, potentially just one, death that will make me legitimately celebrate. As long as a few specific people walk the earth, it is difficult to believe in justice. And karma, forget about it, that shit is fully debunked at this point.

Abominate? I feel like that may do it; usually just reserved to refer to Yetis

[–] CritFail 9 points 1 day ago

Vehemently despise.

Putin's orange puppet at it again.

I heard there's plenty of rare earth elements in land mines, so take all you can dig up!

[–] [email protected] 25 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Would be mafioso, wants protection fee. smh. so predictable, such a doofus.

[–] spankmonkey 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

The mob and gangs do outreach stuff with the community that at least balances out a little bit of their shitty criminal activities.

These fucking Republicans are actively against anything that doesn't ruin people's lives and people still vote for them.

Sure yeah the Bloods and Crips are famous for their bake sales

[–] pennomi 12 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I know it’s extortion, but if Trump thinks he’s getting a deal he will definitely defend Ukraine. Might be the least bad outcome for Ukraine.

[–] spankmonkey 5 points 16 hours ago

No he fucking won't.

Always get payment up front with Maga the Hutt. Could still work "the rare earths are in Donbas, you'll just need to liberate it first"

All the better because it's true I believe

And the elements arnt even the rare or valuable part, its the processing. Just be sure not to make Cuba's mistake and put a damned expiration date on that lease.

[–] spankmonkey 1 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago) (1 children)

The US government doesn't care about expiration dates on leases.

[–] jrs100000 1 points 10 hours ago

Up until a few weeks ago they were usually pretty meticulous about that sort of thing. Going forward...who knows.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 day ago

And the elements arnt even the rare or valuable

Shhhhh don't let the orange thing know that. I bet it thinks rare earth is rare.

I mean... Tbh this does seem reasonable in exchange for their protection.

But so did the extra taxes in the 1700s when we saved the 13 colonies as well, and the yanks made a fuss over that

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Britain picked fights with the French, the Spanish, and Austria, then expected their colonies to foot the bill.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Isn't that kind of what colonies are for? Extracting money from land you took from the people who lived there before?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

If that's how you treat people you shouldn't be surprised when they 'cause a fuss' and kick you out.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 hours ago

I agree, on both levels.
