!nostupidquestions is a community dedicated to being helpful and answering each others' questions on various topics.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

All posts must be legitimate questions, and all post titles must include a question. Questions that are joke or trolling questions, memes, song lyrics as title, etc. are not allowed here. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.

Rule 2- Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

So im aware that this might be against rule 5, but i still wonder

The Musk salute has been the theme of nearly 90% of all posts I've read all week (day? Hour? It's so many I can't keep track)

I see some people complaining it's not a nazi salute, and to be fair, if it was some other famous person not currently courting Germany's afd I could understand the arguments.

But my question is: why have we not seen a massive response from the owner of X that it was not, in fact, a nazi salute? He must be aware. Has he responded and my news circle is just too left leaning? Or has he purposely ignored it?

To me the mere act of not acknowledging it is in fact a confession. But maybe he has and im in too deep in the "other side"

And also sorry for the bad English ➡️ not my native language

He's very aware. He's posting jokes such as "You did nazi that coming" also he's claiming it's all nonsense left wing conspiracy and it was just a harmless wave. Your basic right wing gaslighting mixed with a bit of dog whistling.

At this point it's not "dog whistling", we're all hearing it loud and clear. It's "implausible deniability".

air-horning more like

Please find me a statement he made saying it was just a harmless wave, because unless I missed something recently, he has not said anything of the sort. He hasn't denied making the salute. He hasn't claimed he meant something else. He hasn't said that it was a lie or a conspiracy. A lot of groups and the media have made those claims for him, but Musk has yet to deny anything.

That's the whole point of OP's post. Musk himself has not made any statement contradicting the Nazi narrative.

Yet, as if this writing, he has not denied it.

The whole point he's trying to prove is that he can do something like this with no consequences, including having to apologize. He hasn't apologized and he won't.

The reason he can do that with no consequences and you're left here wondering what the fuck just happened and why the response you normally would expect isn't coming, is that the western political environment has been artificially and methodically polarized for years in preparation for a stunt like this. Cognitive dissonance is an effective tool.

Trump gets to do anything he wants; Musk wants the same treatment.

The Musk salute is more accurately described as a nazi salute because it was.

News corps are being cowardly and the ADL is being about as honest as it ever fucking is.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

ADL condemned him after he doubled down on Twitter with nazi jokes.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago

They did... but they initially cast doubt on whether it was a nazi salute leading to a lot of the news stories saying "suggestive gesture" or "nonspecific salute" instead of saying "that's nazi shit".

He did some stupid shit like, IIRC, retweeted an old post where he said now that he supported Trump, the left would use dirty tricks to smear him, than added a new statement mocking them for not having a more creative dirty trick than calling him Hitler.

He said nothing else that I saw, most likely because he's a Nazi.

People already answered your question but I just wanted to chime in and say your English is probably better than most native speakers.

It's because it doesn't matter; the circus will move on soon. Talking about it only continues the show.
