It's the largest reason why I haven't purchased it yet. I'm very disappointed they decided to do this.
Reminder: steam deck verified has to do with the game launching and having gamepad support. Performance doesn't matter that much. Wait until you see benchmarks before you make decisions, the game can still run like shit on steam deck
In theory "Verified" includes this:
This game's default graphics configuration performs well on Steam Deck
But you're correct, that doesn't even imply locked 30 FPS sadly (Baldur's Gate 3 Act 3 comes to mind).
I suspect performance is a criteria and it is tested but I don't think the testers play through the full game. I seem to remember Horizon Zero Dawn or something got verified but only the starting area performed well. Could be misremembering the game but it's definitely happened.
This game runs on the first Switch, so I think it'll do just fine on Deck at some reasonable settings.
Apparently UI and general performance is okay, but I've heard very bad things about the time AI turns take in late game on switch, which is why I decided not to get this version of Civ 6 till now. Waiting around 10 minutes every new turn doesn't sound fun.
Even though I use my switch quite a lot and the full game had a great discount not long ago.
Good point. I remember needing a pretty beefy PC to run Civ V at launch. Even coming back to it after a hardware upgrade, the game could get pretty chuggy towards the end of a playthrough.
Civ 6 is better anyway. Let me run away now.
I just want to know how long the AI turns will be towards the end of the game. My last civ game was getting pretty ridiculous.
I hope they have crossplay between different OS's figured out this time. Discovering I couldn't play Civ 6 with my friends who were using Windows or MacOS was a major factor in me dropping it shortly after release.
In the past it's been ported by a different company, and now it's seemingly got a Linux port done in-house, so there's reason to expect crossplay. But even if it didn't have that, running the game through Proton ought to solve for that too.
