Fairly pointless article. The six "trends" are:

Much better battery life

A huge leap in performance

Thin phones

price increases

In-display fingerprint sensors that won’t suck

Water-resistant phones everywhere

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago

We already had all of this last year. Phone manufacturers are so useless these days... Virtually no innovation at all in over a decade.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 1 day ago

Sounds live the same list wesay in 2017.

[–] Valmond 7 points 1 day ago

So nothing I really need, maaaybe a much better battery life would be cool, but I charge my phone every night, and I don't think they mean it will last like 5 ot 10 times longer...

Thanks for the job though!

Without reading it I'm betting the list doesn't include

  • SD card
  • Headphone jack
  • Unlocked bootloader
  • Replaceable battery
  • Reduced stock bloat
  • A charger
[–] HurlingDurling 1 points 1 day ago

Haven't read the article, but unlockable bootloaders are on the rise.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 day ago

Very few flagship phones offer the first two now. ( I think Xperia series had an Headphone jack). Replaceable battery is almost gone even in mid rangers. Chargers, Chinese OEMs still provide but still not Samsung or Google.

Not getting a charger is a good thing. I'd rather not pay for the additional charger since my house is full of high quality chargers already. I don't need another one.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Lol have you noticed any drop in price since chargers were removed? There wasn't any. If anything the prices increased, profits increased, and you now get a more expensive phone without a charger (and often even a cable).

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

You are absolutely right, the prices have gone up. Still better for the environment to not ship a redundant charger with each phone.

Newer phones generally charge faster, I agree if it's just a 30W charger most have that already, but my "new" phone charge with 120W, and for some phones the high Watt charging only works with the brands own chargers.

[–] Thatuserguy 5 points 1 day ago

I mean that's assuming they reduce the price accordingly. Which I bet they won't. At that point, just give me the backup in the box personally

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Its a good thing as long as that cable works with whatever proprietary fast charge they have*

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Aren't everyone apart from OnePlus basing their fast charging on USB PD nowadays? At least Apple, Samsung and Google phones can fast charge with USB PD. There is usually no need for a proprietary charger anymore.

May companies like Realme still use Vooc charging and have not switched to USB PD. I think it's the case with majority of Chinese OEMs.

A similar case is seen in wireless tech where Qi or Qi2(which currently only HMD supports) isn't the base standard for Chinese OEMs since their propreitary solutions can sometimes wirelessly charge as high as 50W in some cases.

The situation may be worse than I've been exposed to, due to the phone brands we have in our house.

I still think it's better for the environment to not ship a charger with every phone, even if you cannot assume that everything is USB PD nowadays.

I want a legit physical keyboard flagship

[–] aluminium 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Check out the old Galaxy W Series

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

I appreciate the suggestion, but I want a modern one with good specs and I'm really not a fan of Samsung phones after a series of bad experiences with them.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 day ago

Pointless article.

Maybe for 2052 we can see a trend where phones begin to shrink to smaller than a piece of printer paper.
