All posts must begin with YSK. If you're a Mastodon user, then include YSK after @youshouldknow. This is a community to share tips and tricks that will help you improve your life.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding non-YSK posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-YSK posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

If you are a member, sympathizer or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Let everyone have their own content.

This is 100% free and so is shipping through the USPS.

This is the article from the FTC on this (and also some tips to avoid possible scams) and the link inside to begin the order https://consumer.ftc.gov/consumer-alerts/2024/10/how-order-free-covid-test-kits-federal-government-and-avoid-scammers

They limit 4 per household and do keep in mind that these tests do expire, but it seems wise for everyone to still have some on hand if someone believes they have symptoms. If nothing else, you’ll have some to share with friends if the expiration is close so they don’t go to waste.

I haven't really been paying attention to COVID related news, is it still killing people and stuff? Like I don't even get a test when I get sick, but I probably should.

It absolutely does. New strains are a bit less deadly, and enough of the population is vaccinated so it's not that terrible, but they are more contagious and they still cause lasting damage even if they don't kill, so it's very much a problem

It’s not really “4 per household”. It’s 4 per household PER ROUND. I believe the most recent ordering round started a couple months ago.

Edit: the article is from October, I think that was the most recent window. If you got your free tests from the government before then, you are eligible for 4 more

Thanks for the corrections! This is good to know.

Nah, I ordered in Oct and site said I've reached my limit. You are correct they add new limits every once in. While but they publicize poorly so it's hard to remember.
