There is absolutely no reason to believe 2025 won't be imeasurably worse than 2024. Nothing points to this being anything less than a complete shit show. Possibly including the start of world war 3.

Possibly including the start of world war 3.

Always has been. The nukes have been there pointing at each other for decades. Now more people are realising that the cold war never really ended and war isn't just a thing that happens in far away places.

Well I just saw some beautiful aurora borealis so at least it's off to a positive start

There are arguments that the reason it is so visible is because the magnetic field is weakening. We are expecting a pole shift/flip which should make things even more interesting.

Well I'm pretty sure you didn't see them in tromsø. Global warming has meant that we've had rainclouds for the majority of winter so far.

[–] Scott_of_the_Arctic 3 points 3 days ago

I like how optimistic you kids are these days... I mean, it's adorable that you think 2025 could possibly be better than 2024.

2025 is great! Its closer to 2030 than 2024 ever was.

[–] Lost_My_Mind 51 points 4 days ago (5 children)

Can we just say the same thing to ALL the years since 2001? The 90s were cool. 2000 was.......at least interesting.

2001 was alright............right through sept 10th. And then? And then everything became ass. And it's been ass ever since.

Now, I realize some of you are younger. Maybe you're born AFTER sept 11th, and you're still optimistic enough to think the world is a cool place.

I'm sorry, but no. You should probably go yell at your parents for having sex. They just HAD to drag YOU into this shitshow! The world sucks, it's the only option, and fuck you just because you live here.

Yep. This place sucks. This time period sucks. It's going to suck in the future.

......I'm going to go eat some ham.

b/c life’s rough, bringing some… not exactly cheer but -

Like a billion lifted outta poverty in this graph

[–] conquer4 9 points 3 days ago (2 children)

That is good, although I notice only Latin America got included out of the western hemisphere. (US is 11. 1.

The 21st century seems like a repeat of the 20th. A terrorist attack sets off a world wide war, a global pandemic, an economic boom resulting in major crash, sufferage given to repressed minority groups, and the rise/popularity of far-right movements. But we are only up to the 20s, so expect in the future: -A long lasting economic depression due to deregulation and over-valuation of companies in the 20s, -Isolationism in the US -Economic issues in Russia due to war -Election and control of counties given to far right movements/dictators. Cap it off with a world wide war starting next decade where nuclear weapons will be used. (quarter to half billion dead).

[–] Lost_My_Mind 2 points 3 days ago

Economic issues in Russia due to war

Now you say this as a prediction, buuuuuuut.........you just described Russia's whole existance for like.......the past 1200 years.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

And in about 80 years we'll get another Band of Brothers.

Don't tell the people of Lemmy that capitalism and global trade are a large reason for the decline in overall poverty though.

[–] bizzle 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Capitalism is the root cause of poverty, my guy

[–] Jackthelad 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Lol.

Before capitalism and free trade, 90% of the global population was in extreme poverty. It's now down to 10%.

Since China and other countries ended communism, poverty has declined faster than at any other point in human history.

Always wait for validation from random bootlicking Internet trolls before feeling accomplishment, that's my motto.

Still waiting for you to make any kind of counterpoint...

I'm thinking I will go find a cryopod and come back after climate change has fucked everything up and humanity has evolved into Morlocks and Eloi. Can't be worse than this.

Pigs think the world started sucking when ham was invented

[–] TheLowestStone 6 points 4 days ago

Liz Lemon, is that you?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

Out of curiosity, how old were you in 2001?

[–] pyre 12 points 3 days ago (2 children)

how are we not past this shit by now? please stop blaming years for things that happen in them as if people had nothing to do with them. I've started to think this is perpetuated as a deliberate attempt to remove agency from the kings and lords.

it's just this year, guys, we don't know what happened... just watch that calendar and hope once you flip the big number things will change, despite the fact that we won't do shit, and if we do it's certainly not gonna be for your benefit.

I like comic strips. They make me laugh.

[–] surewhynotlem 7 points 3 days ago

If everyone is doing it, maybe the human brain benefits from compartmentalization and having arbitrary reasons to question habits.
