If you find an injured owl:

Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.

Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.

Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.

If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

Found a pair of videos from an eagle nest cam. Their local GHO is not a fan of having their type in the neighborhood and expresses its concerns in the way owls do.

To be fair, the eagles likely return the favor during the daylight.

The first video link where it does a reverse over the shoulder throw of the eagle is total Batman level night brawling mastery!

That's no joke! See my other reply about wanting to be in a tragic accident as a kid so I can get my big payout. 😖

I hope you and the other Europeans find a way to apply the brakes to some of the spread of this stuff over there. I made the mistake of reading about Musk's letter of support to Germany's AfD, and it's feeding my conspiracy he actually wants to become Lex Luthor or a real life Bond villain.

That's crazy...

As sketchy as these people are, they've got some very memorable commercials.

I still remember the 2 guys that had commercials during The Price is Right when I'd watch it on summer break at my grandparents' house. They really hyped the whole thing up, and I recall being excited that whenever I was finally in a car accident that I'd get to finally call them and become a millionaire!

Have been in some minor accidents. Thankfully never been injured in one. Sadly still not a millionaire. Probably still on the better side of that trade though...

I got rear ended while I was stopped at a light, and pregnant. (thankfully baby was fine. Yay for big sacks of fluid acting as a cushion!) I was prescribed PT for back pain and I think I got maybe $2K out of the ordeal from the other lady’s insurance. Whoop whoop.

LOL it’s such a human-like way to take a hit. It’s like they’re screaming “WA-OOWW!” and throwing their arms back so dramatically.

I bet there's a lot of history on why we really only find small animals cute and cuddly!

Heck, Barred Owls will still try to do to us what this GHO is doing to the eagles!

I'm not sure how long the actual history is, the most widely accepted theory was first proposed by Austrian ethologist Konrad Lorenz in the 1940s. He called it baby schema which basically state that we find certain features of human babys cute which in turn motivates us to take care of them.

Certain aspects of infants like big eyes, can be found in most animals we traditionally deemed cute. For example domestic dogs have "poppy dog eyes" which is entirely absence from wild wolfs, meaning we likely unintentionally bred them to display them since we like it.

I didn't find much from Lorenz about owls specifically, though there was some very interesting stuff about imprinting.

There did seem to be a number of mentions of baby schema in the articles talking about Flaco capturing the hearts of so many. Owls would seem to fit very well, with their big round heads and bodies and large eyes.

I was being a bit more simplistic, by meaning we can find them cute as they don't present a danger to us, but you've given me some more to think about.

Sometimes they can't even tell if everyone is in their assigned trees!

Absolutely! It's all very premeditated.

They are pretty equally matched physically, so the risk of injury in a fair fight is too high. They'll wait until things are to their advantage to make their move.
