Wasn't the original Squid Game a social commentary, a critique of inequalities created by capitalism in South Korea kind of like Parasite? Anyone else think it completely went over the heads of Mr Beast, Netflix, McDonalds and most of the viewers?

Something, something, Torment Nexus

Exactly.

I wonder what their reaction would be to a tv show where a bunch of CEOs were forced to compete to the death to entertain the masses.

Would that get a McDonald's merch tie in? I think seeing private healthcare and fast food CEO's being mown down by machine guns in a battle royale would be a real crowd pleaser.

They made an actual reality show competition with prizing based on squid game. It's all just aesthetics to these people.

'Dare To Play’ demonstrates McDonald’s continued commitment to pushing the boundaries of customer engagement through immersive, cross-platform experiences.

Was this article written by the McDonald's marketing department?

[–] [email protected] 15 points 3 weeks ago

Most articles these days copy large sections from press-releases, yeah. Especially trade outlets.

Here's the page on the McDonald's site for comparison: https://mcdonalds.com.au/newsroom/step-squid-game-maccas-new-meal

McDonald’s Australia and Netflix have brought the Dalgona Candy Challenge to life

Wasn't this a real game before the show just introduced it to the rest of the world? The premise of the show is that they're playing familiar children's games; it just is heavily based on a specific culture.

That game with the colored dice you have to throw and pick up look dope as shit. I wanna learn to play that.

all the fast food places are desperately trying to get people to buy their product that they can no longer afford.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm just glad they're not advertising to kids

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 weeks ago

of course not, this isn't a gambling app

I wonder why there is no mention of the price? lol

How many months of Netflix could you buy with 1 squid game meal? lololol

Why would I buy either? lololololol

[–] Pr0v3n 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Here you go, here’s the price. It’s a bit overpriced for what you get in the meal but it’s about the same as any other meal deal they have.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

4,000 kj?! That's something like half an adult daily intake. Plus it's awful for you, has little nutrition. You'll just feel hungry again after a short time.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago

Certainly not going to disagree that it's unhealthy, but it does probably have enough protein and fat to keep you satiated for a while.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago

They don’t advertise a price because it changes from store-to-store, dependant on demand, stock levels and staffing levels.

Why are they cross promoting a violent mature streaming series and a children's meal?

Whoever gave this a green light should be beaten about the head with an inflatable squeaky hammer until unconscious.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

It's not a Happy Meal, it's an adult box meal.

[–] Death_Equity 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Ok, that makes more sense.

I saw the tiny drink and small portion size, as an American, and could not wrap my mind around that being anything other than a kid's meal, because that is a kid's meal here. Obviously my understanding of a "reasonable" meal is twice the size as what an actual reasonable size is.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

a self-aware American? where are you emigrating to in the new year?

[–] Death_Equity 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Hopefully Texas, outside of Austin and San Antonio. I'd move to Oregon but their gun laws were ruined by clueless Californians fleeing what they did to California without learning their lesson. (I am a Californian who fled California.)

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Hopefully Texas, outside of Austin and San Antonio

By this, do you mean "just outside of", or do you mean "excluding"? Because Austin is just about the only halfway sensible part of Texas, from everything I've seen.

As for Oregon, I just had a read of the lede of this article. Sounds like they were trying to do good things, but unfortunately America's radical regressive courts struck down a lot of the improvements they were trying to make?

[–] Death_Equity 2 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Within a reasonable driving distance of Austin and San Antonio. I wouldn't want to live in either's jurisdiction due to crime, but within a reasonable distance to enjoy the entertainment venues they offer should I decide to accept the risks of theft or vandalism.

I want gay trans adoptive parents to protect their home, family, property, and personal use marijuana plants with suppressed machine guns. Any infringement or delay in their ability to do so is Un-American.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

Sorry, you want guns to be allowed? And not just allowed, but expanded to machine guns with suppressors on them? Wtf is wrong with you‽ You a fan of thousands of children being murdered because of America's lack of sensible policy?

[–] goodthanks 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I read it as personal use marijuana plants that have suppressed machine guns. Maybe they shoot buds.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago

Oh, or maybe the marijuana plants are suppressing the machine guns.

Howard took our guns away in 1996. This was the result https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imc2fGCUDqk
