…and don’t forget to teach them about GNU/Linux!

The most radical of them all :o

for me; its my millennial & genz trumpers.

they just had new daughters and their other daughters have started elementary school so intend to teach them a new word by saying it as often, as frequently, and as loudly as i can: abortion.

the more they exclaim and beg me not to say it front of the children, the more i will do it since i know that my ostracization is not on the table for them.

I enjoy children because adults lie. I also enjoy setting an expectation of similar nuance of technical understanding as I would for an adult and then being surprised at how many rise to the occasion.

The other day I was talking to a ten year old about the French Revolution and American independence. She didn't have the words to express that she already understood. Instead, she held on hand in the air as if grasping something and the other near her chest as if sorta cradling something. I immediately recognized it as the Status of Liberty. I explained simply that it was their gift to us. She replied, "So we'd remember?"

I don't know how to end this post. Do what the OP says.

I enjoy lying to my nephews. Did you know that it's illegal in 10 states to eat your pizza backwards??? And we're in one of those states??? Don't worry....I won't call the cops....if you're nice to your sister....

They're growing up fast now days. Careful with that. They'll not forget.

They love it. I have a great relationship with all of them. Don't think they're gonna look back in anger that I lied about owning a warehouse full of every toy every made but kids aren't allowed so they can't go see it lol

I made a poor assumption that the children didn't understand that you were joking. I apologize.

[–] glimse 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

No worries. They don't know I'm lying at first but they know I'm a jokester who also happens to have singlehandedly won the 1832 World Cup!

I had an uncle like you. He was one of my favorites :)

Best thing I've read on Lemmy today.

and...

We all agree it's a mystery

Too late. Their parents got to them first.

Unfortunately, this.

I have talked to the children in my family over the last 20 years.

My first cousin who is half my age… I told her to question everything! She replied, “that’s right. Question everything but mommy, daddy, and god.” I said, “No. I literally mean everything. Mommy, daddy, god, and everything else.”

I really thought I got somewhere with her. She’s 18 now. I got nowhere. I could be wrong. I’m going to try to spend time with her soon now that she’s an adult.

My younger 1st cousins once removed, I said similar things. Two are preachers (despite their dad getting caught with a man and coming out of the closet, destroyIng a 20+ year marriage), one joined the army despite everything I said, and another is attending America’s last snake handling church.

I don’t think I’ve moved any of them.

I planted seeds though. But when everyone around them is planting weeds, the decent plants can’t compete.

Breaks my goddamn heart.

I have reached kids outside of my family, but way way way way less than I haven’t.

Still. It’s worth it to try.

This round almost entirely ask questions. Don't make statements unless they ask you a question. If you've read the Bible then it's easy to use it to support all the core concepts leftists share.

and another is attending America’s last snake handling church.

Were they in this video?!

Yes. In a single blurred frame.

I drove by the church yesterday on my way to War to reprogram a gas monitor.

[–] Raiderkev 2 points 1 day ago

That's wild. I was watching it in awe that such a place existed still like a week ago

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 day ago

Be that as it may, you still hear stories about how "my worldview changed when I went to college and met people of different backgrounds."

For every 1 of those people there are numerous kids who will listen to discussion and have not lost their empathy. Kids can be smarter than you think.

Never too early to challenge some beliefs.

[–] HexadecimalSky 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I love while the there is far less people, we still have the kids table and it's a few 20 somethings, TBF, besides talking about the crazy uncle we talked about MTG and pokemon.

Magic the Gathering, honestly never seen someone say, M:TG (Even if it is more correct)

[–] Raiderkev 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They were saying that because the other MTG is Marjorie Taylor -Greene

[–] HexadecimalSky 3 points 1 day ago

Ah, okay, thank you for the clarification

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

Where's the source for this? It looks like its probably from a Firstdog Onthemoon comic. It would be nice to see the rest of the panels.
