Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). 3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.

I was talking to my friend who was my Airbnb host in Charleston SC last time we visited. She used to own an art gallery in Paris, and once the election was over she put her house up for sale and is moving back despite several years in Charleston and really liking it there. Says she's not hanging around for this shit. Honestly people should take a very hard look at getting out.

Fwiw, France nearly went full fascist this year, the fact that they barely lost suggests it's coming very soon

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 weeks ago

Only because the liberals joined with the fascists.

Weird how they keep doing that.

His threat was directed at countries in the so-called BRIC alliance

What is meant by this? "so-called" is a qualifier we like to use to infer that something is using a name that doesn't actually define it well. Is this not actually an "alliance," or is this just unapologetic journalist bias trying to use negative language to speak about this group?

Genuine question. I can't think of a third option, but if there is one, please, chime in.

It used to be BRIC (Brazil, India, China, Russia) or BRICS (same + South Africa). In the article, it has been extended again to other nations, therefore "so-called" because its membership is not the same anymore. Also, the membership seems very informal, it's just a bunch of countries maintaining ties and having discussions, not a real group of countries, with its own set of rules and institutions.

That makes a lot more sense. Appreciated.

Soon no country will be left to trade with US.

All according to plan.

Burn it all down, his gates won't hold when there is nothing left.

I like how no one on Lemmy has to be explained how that would crash the U.S economy. They just know. The average intelligence of this place surpasses Reddit at its inception.

Contrast that with my idiot Trump-voter "friends" who insist: "He's just bluffing"

I don't think their world view extends past the two meters in front of their nose, frankly. If they're not in pain on some isolated root base-ganglia, tooth-infection level, it just doesn't exist for them. A beastly existence.

Sorry: Just venting. Lost a lot of "friends" due to the last election. :/

To be fair the C in BRICS is China and I don't think Trump will actually impose a 100 percent tariff on China since that would crash the economy to the extent that rich people will lose money. So he's definitely bluffing there. His base won't judge him on that basis though.

Threats usually work very well to keep everyone in their place.

[–] CharlesDarwin 7 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

He's basically threatening Americans, since they'll be paying this tax.

[–] ChowJeeBai 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah, but most of them voted for this. Those that didn't vote, well, hope it is all worth it.

Don't worry, we'll be getting plenty of that too.
