Why can't they just leave such classics alone ? Right I am of to dig my copy out and settle in for a fun time.
I mean its such a classic I can see why folks will want it left alone, but it is a good story and its been a long time since it was filmed. It had such audacious concepts to for the alien technology that special effects of the time could not do justice to. I won't mind this as long as its done really, really well.
For a second, I read that as remake of Fantastic Planet.
That would have been a plastic surgery disaster.
I think if it's done right, FP would be a perfect movie for a remake.
The original is pretty good, and has decent special effects, but it's certainly a product of its time.
The overt sexism and racism is pretty obnoxious. As long as the remake keeps the story mostly the same, but just cleans it up a bit, ESPECIALLY if they stick with the retro-futuristic style.
That changes it, and obscures the past; whitewashing.
There's no argument to be made for a remake, it's good because it's part of the time in which it was produced.
The original still exists, a remake for modern times doesn't delete the first one.
