I was working on a song in 5/4 when I accidentally wrote this chonking big riff in 7/8. Sounds like Soundgarden with a Rammstein touch. I usually don't like 7/8 but this riff has something magical about it.

Tell yer drummer to play quarter notes on that 7/8 riff so you get a phat pulse over the bar line.

I don't have a drummer, but you might be the one to ask about another piece. All of it's in 4/4 except the main riff, which is (I think) 6/8. I really want to do a polyrhythm but I'm not sure how to make it flow with the straight 4/4 stuff. Any ideas?

Any 3:2 polyrhythm will work. Look up Pete Magadini on YouTube and learn to count 6:4 (same as 3:2). Also, buy his book: http://www.petermagadini.com/portfolio/polyrhythms-the-musicians-guide/.

I looked that guy up, but couldn't find him talking about 3:2. But I found another video that showed 3:2 AND 2:3 and one of those fit perfectly. I didn't realise I could simplify it to 3 and 2 - I was trying to find 4/4 over 6/8 and all sorts of nonsense. 3 and 2. Simple. Cheers.

Do you plan to post it somewhere at some point?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Well, it's just a riff at this point. And my riffs tend to have sections, and I only have one section. Early days. If I make something worth sharing, I'll share.

Awesome! Can’t wait.

Not too bad. We're at the halfway point.

Hump day was originally not a sex thing. It was simply an expression of passing the half mark of the work week and now counting down to the weekend.

Had turbinoplasty operation today. They remove some bony structure and tissue inside the nose, to ease air passage (in the long run).

The operation went fine but there is quite some bleeding and irritation in the nose area. 2 weeks off work, luckilly with pay. Just taking it easy and planning to add a lot of play hours to my No Mans Sky play time!

Hope it clears up nicely, and congrats :)

Hey congrats! Is No Mans Sky good? I liked it originally but got bored, and it looked to me like all the updates were about combat, which I don't care about and would rather avoid.

Thanks! I am enjoying it quite a lot actually. The latest update and expedition is about fishing! I guess they are using NMS as a testing platform for their upcoming survival game called Light No Fire.

I like games where i can just do my own thing, try to figure things out and look at pretty stuff. That said, i'm only 90hour into this play so i dont know how well it holds in the long run

Unlike most of my lifetime, work is calm but the rest is crazy.

The heat wave has broken and I was practically frolicking outside today. It’s so incredibly pleasant, other than the air quality warning from the nearby fires. 😬

Pretty good, getting used to working from home while taking care of a newborn. It's tough but becoming manageable.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

Congratulations!

It's been crazy on my end.

You know what? It's been pretty good.

I am recovering well from rotator cuff surgery with much more range of motion at this point than typical. My youngest had a hard start of the week at school but has turned it around. My oldest ran in his first cross country meet - he came in dead last, and though he is extremely disappointed he has no intentions of quitting. He and I grabbed burgers and an appetizer sampler at the local pub to boost his spirits, and it was more like hanging out with a younger friend than with my kid. Tonight is a date night with my wife, which means we will get high and order takeout once the kids are in bed.

We have plenty of hard times, but this is a good week.

I hate my job and I feel unapreciated in it, BUT it doesnt have that many work hours, perhaps 30% of the time I have work, so I am learning how to become a developer, so I can change it. I am also starting to workout a bit more each day. So I think I am moving forward, from alot of time of staying the same.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

Great! Weather's nice and cold which I love, and I just ordered takeout!

I also cannot believe that I missed out on playing Jak and Daxter until now!

So good I get nervous sometimes. Just trying to enjoy the ride in this meat sack. I hope you’re all well.
