OG Xbox still goes hard, especially with surround sound

Heh… I looked at those and thought “what am I missing? None of the companies that made those consoles were startups.”
5 seconds later “ahh… favourite boot screens….”
No no. Nintendo was a small startup......in 1889.
GameCube is charming and Dreamcast is etherealy beautiful, but nothing beats pressing that Xbox power button and feeling like you just started up a nuclear powered machine from the future.
SEGA
Also several of them were very playful and had some quirky animations that set perfectly the tone for the game.
Edit: that's the Genesis/mega drive for you.
Game Cube with the Z button held down. (Monkey sounds and a child’s laughter replacing the regular boot up jingle.)
Dreamcast starting is so soothing... even if it comes with fan noises.
Not a start up excatly, but I can't help but be nostalgic for all the various versions of the SEGA screen in genesis games.
The OG PlayStation is my childhood. The Sony logo goes almost as hard as the THX deep note. And then waiting with anxiety for the disc read to succeed on a scratched up disc, anticipating the sweet release of the PlayStation logo and sound.
E. A. Sports. I'ssin the game.
The orchestral tune up of the PS3 was always a great one.
PS1, no contest. I even have that audio playing and my KDE Plasma startup sound.
Sony PlayStation 2
PlayStation beats all. GameCube is amazing but not close.
Yeah PS1/PS2 are iconic. New PS5 is pretty great spiritual successor.
i have so much nostalgia wrapped up in DS, GameCube, And PS2 that I could never make meaningful evaluation; I'd just choose those three every time
edit: does anyone know where to find videos of these startup screens so I can add them to my steam deck?
GameCube's was fun because you could make it wiggle by messing with the controls. Gameboy had something similar where if you played an OG Gameboy game on GBC, you could mess with the controls to select the colour scheme
Sega Master System
Oddly enough the games I remember most didn't have any logo intro: Alex Kid and Ghost House.
I've owned 4 PSPs, jailbroken all of them...
The psp has a boot screen like that? What? I remember it was literally the ps3 boot.
That screen appears when booting a game, not the console itself.
Despite never owning one until just a year or two ago, Dreamcast is definitely my favorite. Had a PSx but never played much, yet it's still my 2nd favorite.
I think the Xbox and Gamecube are the best, but Gameboy and Playstation 1 are the most nostalgic for me.
Not quite startup, but Dino Eggs player warp in scene sound on C64. starting at 40 through 60 seconds. https://youtu.be/kwh-M6Rb48k?feature=shared
Windows 7
I don't really care that much for whatever the startup is but the one that is most seared in my mind is the simple saga one. the sound really more than the look but the look always accompanies the sound. mostly I think due to shadowrun.
What's the first one in the top left I have no idea what that is
OG Xbox
Neo Geo one is pretty cool
The first time my brothers and I booted the original xbox was a major and magical moment in my childhood. So techy and sci fi it felt like starting up some sort of reactor or spaceship.
Saturn
OG Xbox and Dreamcast are the most nostalgic for me.
While I really liked the ps2s, I'd probably say OG Xbox and GameCube were the "best."
PS1/PS2 and GBA.
DSi is the only one I have nostalgia for.
It's bullshit though that modern consoles don't have bootup animations or customizable home menus at all.
The PS5 has sort of glowy gold dots that fly around. No idea what the Xbox start of animation is because literally no one owns one.
I can still remember the exact sound of the gamecube startup and see that little cube unfolding.
