It looks like salmonella on a contaminated MAC agar... I feel a little queasy now.

Imagine if the drink is just a little thick.

I hope it's peach flavoured so it can have a name like "peachy dish"

I feel like there's a primal part of my brain that would tell me not to drink something that looks like there's mold growing on it that would be difficult to get past.

[–] Bojimbo 10 points 5 months ago (1 children)

That looks more like a bacteria growth than a mold.

Whatever it is, it looks like it's been sitting out for a week.

I won't eat the agar I won't eat the agar I won't eat the agar

Someone gifted me a really cool set of erlenmeyer and beaker glasses and cups. They look great, and drinking from them actually makes me physically nauseous. Even seeing other people drink from them makes me uneasy.

I could not keep this drink down no matter how tasty it is.

Does anyone here know what's in this drink? I tried a Google but only found other petridish-like cocktails and shooters that pale by comparison.

looks like the recipe is here

edit: or not. the image matches but, after actually paying attention to the recipe, I'm not sure that sounds right.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 5 months ago (2 children)

No, it sounds right. There's matcha, but with the acid from the lemonade curdling the milk, it's used to clump shit together so that the drink can be filtered and clarified. I've never tried it, but I've seen the technique used a number of times.

Yeah same concept as a milk-washed cocktail, which cuts down on the bitter/astringent flavors in liquor. Works really well, I bet this drink would be delicious

Wow, you all are amazing. Thanks.

Would lactose-intolerant people be able to drink this or is enough milk left behind that it would cause issues?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I don't know enough about the chemistry going on to give you a confident answer. I assume not though - I don't think curdling milk gets rid of all the lactose, and since you're essentially using curdled milk as a filter with this technique, I wouldn't be surprised if a non-zero amount of lactose made it's way through the filter. I'd have to do some actual research to know for sure though.

I appreciate you taking the time to answer! An honest "I don't know" is still very helpful.

[–] anomoly_ 2 points 5 months ago

Interesting. Thanks for the explanation.

I don't know why, but my danger sense is off the charts rn

[–] Bojimbo 6 points 5 months ago

The good news is that those growths do not produce hemolysins.

[–] chemical_cutthroat 3 points 5 months ago

Looks like a rum punch with Tabasco

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

Hmmm… now I want a penicillin. ‘Course I always want a penicillin.

The cocktail, not the antibiotic. But it will cure what ails you…
