The project entails blowing out 2 bay windows and putting standard size ones in place. Problem is we need to figure what to do about siding. The last 7 years we have looked at siding and have never came across these. I've considered doing cider slats painted this color but it's still gonna be an eye sore.

And for those who will suggest it, no I'm not going to reside my entire house.

lap siding designed to look like shingle siding

I think it's press board. Like old fashioned MDF, or high tech insulbrick. I seem to remember ripping it off houses before.

That or fiber cement, I think.

Careful if it’s fiber cement. Sometimes it contains asbestos. Not a big deal if you don’t break it.

I thought the same thing. The edges are too crisp for Masonite

Might be actual shingle siding that's been painted. Hard to tell from the photo. Maybe take one off and take it to a building supplier and ask them what they think it is.

It totally could be shake with thick paint from years of coats. I'd have to see it and probably take some of it off to know for sure.

You're on the right track with the cedar. I searched for cedar shake style siding and came across this product that looks similar. https://www.jameshardie.com/product-catalog/exterior-siding-products/hardie-shingle-siding/straight-edge-panel/statement-collection-colors/

Yes, I was actually going to say this is cedar I think because it looks like a place we rented once and I had no clue the siding was cedar until it got humid and you could literally smell it coming off the place. But also the little birdies would drill into it and live in the walls...which was a first.

p.s. - Do you smell cedar when humid? Cause that's a huge tip off =P!

Picture looks like real wood and not paper, hardie or vinyl. Venat0r has the right idea of taking a sample in to your local yard. A couple possibilities I came across online are https://www.becn.com/products/siding/wood-siding/C-503734 and https://truwoodsiding.com/products/1-2-cedar-shake-lap-siding/ although the online pictures are garbage for them.
