Good. Taiwan is a free Independent country that is NOT china. Highly recommend a visit. Some of the nicest people I’ve ever met. And the foooooood!

"The representative told Taiwan News that the purpose of the defacements was to protest against "Google's harsh inactive account policy" and to warn Russian President Vladimir Putin against using tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine or jeopardizing the safety of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant"

Could someone explain why Google or Russia would care about UN websites? That's like saying took a dump on the floor at my local McDonald's to protest the apartheid in Gaza.

Sounds like some masterful trolling to claim their hacktivism is motivated by such irrelevant goals

Or someone just trusted AI way too much to write the article for them. I haven't seen this mentioned elsewhere, just Twitter and Reddit posts linking to this same site.

It’s what you could classify as complete horseshit, that’s why.

The Google bit somewhat makes sense if that was the attack vector but the Russia bit makes little sense other than if they continue to try to annex Ukraine, they'll deface some websites to still show Ukraine as sovereign. I'm all for the move, the justifications though just seem a bit less impactful than just doing the act without comment

".com.tw" lmao i see what they did there

[–] betterdeadthanreddit 4 points 2 years ago

The country code top level domain for Taiwan is .tw (ISO 3166 online entry) which is valid on its own or when used after a generic TLD. If you're suggesting that this site is using www and taiwannews as subdomains for the domain com and tw cc TLD, this is not the case. It's the www subdomain of domain taiwannews with com TLD and tw cc TLD.

They waste time on this while the PRC makes strides in being more self sufficient
