Oh no, you can certainly choose not to pay taxes but that only lasts about a year.
Like you can choose not to pay for a candy bar when you're leaving the store with it but it only lasts until you get outside the store

Fun fact. Most benefits from the VA aren't actually taxable. And while you can get service connected on VA claims before getting out, SSDI is its own deal with its own rules.
Also, if they haven't completed 8 years of service Uncle Sam still owns that ass, even if it's Individual Reserve. (No drills, no annual training, just the prospect of an activation letter one day.)
