takes out noteblock „fightclub now incel content“

[–] [email protected] 75 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Fight Club isn't inherently incel content, but incels have a history of missing the point of media, and in this case many of them think Fight Club is an exaltation of the toxic masculinity to which they subscribe. It is not

Interesting! Thanks for explaining. Not sure how they would come to the conclusion though. „poor white men to blame for everything“ or something? I always found that fightclub was about a dude who grew up in a bleak and industrialized society breaking out of his hamster wheel and making space for himself in the world (and blowing shit up of course). What I took from it is that one should change stuff instead of going perfectionist mode. Not sure I explained it well.

The problem is they think Tyler Durden is cool? And that's it, they don't empathise with the narrators realization that Tyler is insane. That's just the what the plot of the movie thinks. Same as American Psycho but that's probably more crazy given the ending is him literally losing his mind

Precisely, same deal with the Joker, they watch and think, “Wow this guy makes a lot of sense! He’s not crazy, all of you are the crazy ones!” which is exactly what a crazy person would think lol.

Like no, the solution to the fact that you don’t get laid isn’t “Well obviously I need to become an even shittier person.”

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago

When I first watched the film I thought that as well. I grew up in a dysfunctional family where morals are optional. Over the years, tyler went from cool renegade to violent narcissist in my perception.

[–] Phegan 6 points 2 months ago

You seem to understand metaphor and nuance. Many incels do not.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

Regardless of your explanation, you're clearly not an incel, so congrats

[–] Agent641 1 points 2 months ago

I just assumed the moral of the Fight Club was to blow up credit card companies

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver 28 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Lol, it's just one of those movies that, for whatever reason, all the weird incel/manosphere circles attached to, like Driver or American Psycho.

They're great movies and there's nothing wrong with them.

[–] whotookkarl 9 points 2 months ago

It's the movie equivalent of needing a /s to know the content is satirical in nature

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago

Ok, thanks for elaborating. I was confused for a sec.

[–] ripcord 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

But of you're making your cat watch them will effectively castate them, aren't you saying that there's something wrong with them...?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago

my guess is that you are putting to much thought in a simple meme, or OP is a genius and made a meme with 3 layers of interpretation

[–] CluckN 6 points 2 months ago (2 children)

It’s going to take a lot of noteblocks to encode that message.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

Surprise minecraft reference. Nice. I used noteblock because notebook sounded too much like laptop in my head. :)

[–] Donkter 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They've made turing complete computers in Minecraft. It shouldn't be too hard.

Yea, wtf do you mean? Is OOP some kinda single braINCEL organism?

(Sorry OOP i just thought of this stupid funny wordplay, please dont turn me into an incel)

[–] herrwoland 50 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Since when fight club is incel?

[–] [email protected] 51 points 2 months ago (2 children)

from other answer

Fight Club isn't inherently incel content, but incels have a history of missing the point of media, and in this case many of them think Fight Club is an exaltation of the toxic masculinity to which they subscribe. It is not

Being an incel is incompatible with media literacy

[–] RadicalEagle 18 points 2 months ago

That's a great point. In order to be media literate you usually need to understand complex relationships between individuals and the social structures they exist in.

[–] Son_of_dad 12 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Interesting, in the movie the main character even admits he's nothing but a man-boy who can only pretend he has his life together but has no clue how the world works, then goes on a rage filled terrorist plot, despite not knowing how the world works. You could say Jack is an incel, and a loser. And Tyler is who he wants to be, but in the end it's still a movie about a bunch of fucked up losers who don't know how shit works.

[–] CitizenKong 3 points 2 months ago

The movie literally turns incel philosophy into a person, then proceeds to kill him. It's not exactly subtle.

[–] [email protected] 38 points 2 months ago

Member when you could like a movie without joining some weird internet clique?

[–] RageAgainstTheRich 29 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Cats are smart and will actually get the point when watching fight club, unlike incels. Don't insult the cat like that by comparing their intelligence with that of incels.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

This is what I meant when I said it's been recognized as such. I failed to explain myself. I forget that we don't all have the same media experience (I listen to podcasts that reference the lack of understanding of stupid people who miss the point).

[–] Thcdenton 17 points 2 months ago

When everything is incel, nothing is

[–] letsgo2themall 17 points 2 months ago

But..... he screws Marla throughout the movie.
