I was pretty nervous about the show, but it far exceeded my expectations. It did a great job staying mostly true to the FO universe, and striking a balance between the serious, dark humor, and absurd tones of the games.

Hopefully we get another Fallout game sometime this decade.

I was very pleasantly surprised. The characters were likeable, the setting very well done and it mostly struck a good balance between the silliness of the FO universe and still staying more or less believable. Loved Matt Berry's cameo especially.

The ending was a bit predictable and melodramatic which felt like it went against the grain of the rest of the show, but overall really well done. Looking forward to season 2.

I’ve been really considering giving FO76 a try. I’ve been stockpiling resources from GamePass rewards, and the lore seems pretty cool. I like the idea of playing a fallout game that’s set so soon after the bombs drop.

Same here, actually installed it the other day having never played fo76...
it played like shit (<15fps) with barely any hardware usage (GPU doing nothing, 14% CPU utilization) . Found out it needs to be played in full screen mode (on AMD cards at least) to actually utilize GPU, confirmed that was the issue and uninstalled it.

But the game is apparently good if you can get it to work or look past some dumb shit like this.

Steam just had a free weekend so I've been playing it. I like it a lot and I do think it's worth playing, but it's definitely a clunky console port, the added latency of forced multiplayer doesn't do it any favors, and the amount of QoL locked behind microtransactions or a $13/month subscription just feels bad.

I'd definitely recommend it. I played it about a year after release and didn't encounter any of the bugs/problems that people were experiencing right after release.

It's not the best FO game, but it was still a lot of fun. All the new cryptids/mutants were very cool, and the scenery/environments were great.

It blows my fucking mind how badly companies mismanage good video game IP.

Either they absolutely saturate the market as fast as they can to the point where any game is just a grain of sand shifting and swirling as the waves of quarterly releases wash against the shore (Call of Duty)

Or they make a good game, but then spend either DECADES milking them (Elder Scrolls, GTA) or they just wait so long that it eventually falls of the cultural radar and the moment to strike is long past (Half Life, Portal)

Like, let creative people do creative things. Let people who are good at making games make games. No your MBA doesn't mean you should be directing creative decisions.

I'd prefer the second option tbh, and let them come up with new stuff and IP. Sure, Starfield is a mediocre bland game, but at least they're trying something new instead of keep making sequel after sequel. At least they're not destined to create only one thing(343 Industry)

Looks like they made my new Vegas playthrough the official cannon

[–] [email protected] 4 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Why do you say that? We got a single glimpse of Vegas and I don't think much else

[–] Son_of_dad 5 points 7 months ago (1 children)

The timeline of the show lines up to the rise of Mr. House and his takeover of new Vegas. I really hope we get to see all that, I would love to see Caesar's legions.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 months ago

New Vegas would be a lot of fun, it's areal shame Rene Aberjones assed away a few years ago. He would've been great in the role.

From what I saw it looks like House is in charge and Shady Sands got Nuked, which mirrors my first playthrough perfectly.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago

Can you nuke Shady Sands? I thought all you could target was Dry Wells and the Long 15.

I did think about that though. It would be interesting if they chose to make all the evil decisions the courier can make canon.

Kind of like the New Vegas mod DUST.

Well, some Fallouts

I started playing Fallout 4 again this weekend. Then I got to the settlement shit and quit.

Man that was my favourite part. Easily took my GPA down 0.5 - 1.0 points

For someone who only liked NV from the 3D games, never touched 76 and still likes 1-2 the most how is the show?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

It’s good, it definitely retains that… “silly but actually kind of brutal and depressing” thing the games have going on. Also it expands on the lore of Vault Tec, the “lifecycle” of ghouls, and some other little things. And it can be genuinely funny at times!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

From what I've seen on the internet, the events of NV have been retconned in the show, and some people are upset about that. It seems the more of a fallout purist you are the less likely it is you'll enjoy the show.

Most casual fallout enjoyers seem to like it well enough.

[–] MissGutsy 2 points 7 months ago

Totally disagree. I'm a diehard fallout fan, played all the games and know all of the lore. The more you know about Fallout the better it actually gets. There are some small discrepancies, but can easily be ignored if you realize how well it ties all the stories together. It literally references every single game (apart of 76 and brotherhood), even the unreleased ones and picks up the good concepts from the cancelled movie

[–] JoeKrogan 2 points 7 months ago

Still have to watch it but I hate the ghouls. They are disgusting. I put them out of their misery in the games

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I haven't played any Fallout game, but I am pretty sure I own some lmao (giveaways and such), so what is the most recommended title to start with?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago

Do you like isometric RPGs like Baldur's Gate, Numenera, etc? Start with 1 or 2. 3 if you're more of an action/RPG person
