It depends what you are after.

Even though Google has a long history of killing their products I doubt they'd do it to Google Drive anytime soon. You could upload it there and make it publicly available. Proton Drive is newer and preferred by a lot of people for numerous reasons. It has a 5GB limit. You could probably use that.

I feel like the key is having at least one other place where it is in the event one service dies.

That said there are paid services out there that would likely keep your files indefinitely and are unlikely to shutdown anytime soon.

There's also other non canon and cancelled Fallout projects like Fallout Extreme and Fallout Tactics 2. They are neat for fan project world building.

For anyone interested in Van Buren there's a huge rabbit hole you can go down. The demo is available, there's several fan projects made to recreate elements of it (more than the one the article mentions), and Retcon Raider has some pretty good videos covering the design documents.

It would be nice if troubleshooting this was more standardized. Most people just seem to jump to a new firmware or give up all together.

I was referring to drives like the Seagate 16TB HDD Exos X16. That said there are MDD drives that are apparently cheaper but I haven't heard of them before.

Kind of reminds me of how I played The Long Dark. I turned all of hazards to minimal and treated it like a walking simulator/exploration game

I followed the guides that are out there that basically say the following.

  • Install Port Master and the Stardew Valley port though the app

  • In Steam right click on Stardew Valley and go to properties followed by Betas and select compatibility - For 32-bit systems. The legacy XNA version of Stardew Valley. Wait for it to update.

  • Transfer the game's files into ports/stardewvalley/game data

But every time I attempt to launch it goes to a black screen then back to the lists of ports. I am not sure if this is because I am running KNULLI. When I was searching for this online people seem to be running muOS.

I've been able to get Half Life to launch so I'm not sure what's going on here. I would appreciate some advice.

I might try the other compatibility option for Stardew Valley which is the legacy option for 1.5.6 but I don't think that will do anything either.


The TL:DR of my edits is I still haven't gotten it to work. Once I saw that it worked in muOS I started looking into the differences between the two and trying to transfer them over to KNULLI. All my searching online says that it's an issue with mono but the files are there. muOS and KNULLI have different directory layouts so I am wondering if some folder isn't in the correct location.


Troubleshooting Edits:

Edit: Using muOS works. I'm using the same setup process for each firmware so I'm not sure what's happening here. I thought it might be an issue with the .sh file pointing to the wrong directory but I compared it to the Half Life one and it looks pretty similar. There is a log file in the Stardew Valley folder that mentioned a SIGSEGV while executing native code. It says this is usually an error in mono runtime or one of the native libraries.

It goes into more detail but it says

warning: unable to find libthread_db matching inferior's thread library, thread debugging will not be available.

0x0000007f8fded794 in wait4 () from /lib/libc.so.6

I might try to post the entire log file in its entirety later today.


Edit 2: I decided to look more into mono but it hasn't really turned up anything. I thought I might be missing some kind of mono file but I compared the two firmwares and both have the mono-6.12.0.122-aarch64.squashfs file in \PortMaster\libs\ and the various mono files in \ports\stardewvalley\dlls. When searching for "mono" on the KNULLI firmware I do have an empty mono folder. I also tried reinstalling mono through PortMaster but it did nothing. After reinstalling Stardew Valley it seems like it auto-installs along with it.


Edit 3: I tried to down-grade PortMaster by deleting the folder and .sh file and downloading an older version from GitHub to match the version muOS uses but I may have done this incorrectly because PortMaster is no longer launching.

I found several other posts detailing the same issue or similar issues. The setup guide for Stardew Valley by RetroGamesCorps has multiple people in the comments mentioning it, the GitHub page for KNULLI has an issue post about this (it can be found here where I believe they attempted to launch the Stardew Valley .sh file through the file manager app Commander, and on subreddits like /r/RG35XX_H and /r/SBCGaming people are talking about PortMaster games not launching or launching after several attempts.

I tried messing with the Stardew Valley .sh file to see if changing the monofile line to use the address of the mono squashfs file would help but that didn't seem to do anything.

My next step will probably be to use the Steam console to download a specific version of the game. Some have said that might work. It all seems so sporadic. People have been able to get it working and comment on the triggers being reversed and others can't seem to get it all.

I like KNULLI because it reminds me of AmberELEC with the video previews and I think you can set it up so games display whether they have RetroAchievements from the selection screen but I may end up switching over muOS at this rate.

I haven't been able to get achievements to display either but I am doing one thing at a time.

Maybe Paralives. I feel like it's further out from completion than Tiny Life though and is going to require more time to become a polished product.

I mean you aren't too far off. Honestly I wouldn't mind it. I would rather have a feature rich simpler looking game than something that's fancy and shallow.

I'd be more than impressed by something just basically recreates the original Sims experience.

That's a shame. I do feel like Life By You is the Sims-style game I've heard the least about though

That's kind of like Tiny Life. It is similar to the Sims but with retro graphics. Lots of people bought it as soon as it hit early access when a lot of core things were missing.

 

I was considering making a 30+ TB NAS to simplify and streamline my current setup but because it's a relatively low priority for me I am wondering is it worth it to hold off for a year or two?

I am unsure if prices have more or less plateaued and the difference won't be all that substantial. Maybe I should just wait for Black Friday.

For context it seems like two 16TB HDD would cost about $320 currently.

I am playing through it for the first time and I know it has a rich modding scene so I'm wondering what is out there.

I would be curious about quality of life mods like bug fixes and graphical improvements. I'm not super interested in rebalance mods at this time.

It's a 14 minute video by Modern Vintage Gamer that talks about ROM take downs and how Internet Archive ROM sets have managed to stay up (the Internet Archive page explaining this can be found here), the challenge of dumping games, and how Nintendo isn't doing enough for fans.

What about silk or bamboo pillow cases?

I've only ever really used cotton pillow cases and cotton stuffed pillows. I recently upgraded to a foam pillow that I'm enjoying.

It will focus on the origins of the enigmatic Slayer and feature a never-before-seen medieval war against hell. Judging from everything shown in the trailer, it looks like a pretty radical departure from the more futuristic, sci-fi look other the other games.

Like the two previous installments, Doom: The Dark Ages is being developed by id Software and is powered by the idTech game engine.

A recent post from the official Doom X / Twitter account has also confirmed that the game will be available as part of an Xbox Game Pass subscription. It will be launching for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PC and, rather surprisingly, PlayStation 5.

I've been trying to mimics the functionality of Steam with open source projects. For example using Playnite as my game library manager. One thing I'm having a bit of a hard time with is finding a substitute for achievement tracking. I know achievements aren't for everyone but I find it helps motivate me to power through lulls in longer games and try out side quests.


The closest alternative I have come across is xan105's Achievement Watcher. It started in 2019, got a fair amount of attention 2020 after being posted on /r/CrackWatch by the creator, was added to various piracy megathreads, and stopped development in 2022.

It was a bit of a challenge to setup.

Some steps were:

  • Grab my own Steam API so it could fetch data for the achievements.

  • Alter Windows 11's notification settings so I could get the achievement unlocked notification.

  • Go through the steam_emu.ini files so I could find the correct directories (ex. \Users\Public\Documents\CODEX)

  • Using Achievement Watcher to generate the achievements.json and image files and placing them in the steam_settings folder of each game.

Even then I haven't been able to get it working smoothly. For Cities: Skylines for example I can unlock achievements but I don't receive a notification and they only appear after I refresh Achievement Watcher (Control + R). Most modern guides suggest using a Steam Auto Cracker but doing so appears to stop the game from working. I don't know if this is because I am utilizing repacks or if there are multiple forms of DRM at work. I could easily be missing something.

I've read there are compatibility issues with Achievement Watcher and cracks from groups/people like TENOKE.

Considering I own the games I want to play without DRM I may just try to use Goldberg myself.


Some games like Fallout New Vegas allow you to view completed challenges in-game and I imagine there are mods out there that add some form of achievement/trophy/challenge system.

There's also RetroAchievements for older games.

 

If I recall correctly the maximum Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) for earplugs and earmuffs is around 30db. You can combine the two for a slight increase in hearing protection but you still hit a limit because of bone vibration.

Is there PPE out there to go even further beyond this? Where would it be commonly used?

 

I currently have have some Bose QuietComfort earbuds but the case the case for them is quite thick and doesn't easily fit in a front pocket. I am wondering what's out there with a form factor similar to AirPods.

  • Transparency mode

  • Active noise cancelling

  • Comfortable

  • Not going to easy fall out of my ears

  • Decent IP (Ingress Progression) rating

  • Multipoint so I can toggle between devices

Does Multipoint functionality in headphones allow you to listen to two different devices at the same time?

I have been using an audio mixer at my desk for a while now so I can do things like listen to music while I play video games but I am wondering if Multipoint could replace my audio mixer and simplify my setup. Would it allow me to listen to two different devices at the same time?

I have been reading about Multitpoint on websites selling compatible headphones (Jabra and Google) and it doesn't sound like this is the case. It sounds like it's simply a faster means of switching back and forth between devices. What makes me second guess this though are posts I have seen in forums suggesting Multipoint is the solution I am looking for.

If not could some wireless DAC be the solution?
