Retired Judge Michael Luttig, a conservative jurist who has nonetheless become a frequent critic of former President Donald Trump, outlined the dangerous game the former president is playing by attacking judges and their families.

Writing on Twitter, Luttig took Trump to task for his regular attacks on judges and their family members, including his most recent attacks on the daughter of Judge Juan Merchan, who is currently overseeing his business records fraud trial related to 2016 hush-money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels.

"The Nation is witnessing the determined delegitimization of both its Federal and State judiciaries and the systematic dismantling of its system of justice and Rule of Law by a single man – the former President of the United States," Luttig began.

Luttig went on to document the unprecedented nature of Trump's assault, which has not been limited to merely the judges who are overseeing his multiple criminal trials.

Guy spends his whole life supporting the party that vomited up trump. Then watches as trump shits on everything he thought conservatives held dear.

Thats gotta suck. Hey, maybe they could use that - whatdyacallit - “law” or whatever to make it so he quits threatening the families and coworkers of judges?

Just a thought, i dunno.

God, if were the judges daughter right now I'd be like.. oh so you wanna talk shit about me and not face repercussions, then I'll do the same about you while you Trump whines into infinity about how that proves his point about the judge being biased. He's just a sissy opportunist. Should change his name to Daren Trump.

They're terrified of seeming political, or making a mistake that will let him walk. Republicans have stacked the courts with people who barely grasp US law, and certainly have no respect for it, and the Democrats have put up glorified bureaucrats. We need a judge willing to force the issue and say "if you were anyone else this behavior would land you jail awaiting trial, so that's where you're going.", Or I dunno, maybe stop giving breaks with fines. Let the morons whine and cry about being biased, or an activist judge; make the USSS have to coordinate with corrections to maintain protection while being held. Show this isn't a game. Prove that you have some conviction when it comes to the rule of law in the US. History would look kindly on the person who chose the make the right call when it wasn't easy.

I feel like a broken record with how much I've said this in the last handful of years, but: someone needs to be the fucking adult in the room.

Republicans have already delegitimized the legislature and the presidency, so the court system was the last branch to run into the ground. None of it was done by a single man. A single man is the proof that the approach has worked.

MAGA is going to have to kill some judges before we see change. Couple of blown Mercedes and I bet the collectively change their tune. Overnight.

Until then, they're this half-assed threat that isn't taken seriously.

That would not change the minds of the faithful at all. Some right wing loser on TwitX would just invent some conspiracy theory like "the judge was in deep with the Mexican Cartel!!" and then they'd just continue like normal.

The journalism schools failed to teach journalists how to be pissed off. They taught that righteous anger isn’t objective, but it is.

Everyone thinks their anger is righteous.

Luckily, I am actually correct and this would all go a lot smoother if everyone else agreed.
