I dont know, I'm starting to understand it. Like, the last marvel movie I remember making a point to see was the most recent Spider-Man (however long ago that was), and I was falling off before then. I watched Loki, but that was it other than catching parts of a movie on streaming. I missed all the other big shows. The fucking mountain of mediocre media it feels like I have to climb to get caught up is absurd. So, if it's something like watching a (one) movie or a series to get context -- fine. But if I need to start by looking up a guide and watch order just to get hours of subpar content, then I'm out. I'll watch the new Spider-Man, and complain when you rely on some flop from a year ago rather than construct an actual plot that's reasonably self-contained.

This is coming from someone who reads and collects comics. I'm no stranger to the "read this other series for 1-?? issues to get the full story!", but MCU is something else entirely. Wide where it should be tall.

I forget it's not a super widely known thing that samurai movies and westerns have built off each other in a way. Slow burn, fast climactic action, stoic protagonists. It's one of those things that you wouldn't expect at face value, but actually have a lot in common when you start breaking it down. They have influenced each other a lot over the years, with 7 Samurai itself even pulling some inspiration from Ford's westerns.

It's cool seeing some of the history laid out. That sharing of ideas has led to some incredible films.

I've been listening to pod on an off for years. Quality is always there and they're upfront about their positions so I feel like I'm listening to actual discussion, not someone trying to convince me. I need to check out MeidasTouch I guess

Well, it made me feel smart. So either you're a good teacher, and helped me put into words and solidify something I already understood more abstractly. Or you're a terrible teacher, and have led me further astray.

Pretty rough dichotomy there. I would not want to be an educator.

There really were some great ones. Playing through Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops still stands out to me over a decade on. Shit was tight, and I honestly didn't feel that again after the PSP. Until I picked up my steam deck, that thing would have rendered 10 year old me catatonic.

I mean if you read it article it's full of "this is the Democrats fault" and "we made a mistake, but we'll never admit it". So many are still flailing, looking for anyone else to blame and absolve them of a dumbass move.

"the Ukraine" referred to the region while it was still part of the Russian/Soviet empire. Nowadays just "Ukraine" is the better way to say it, from what I understand.

The term "flashpoint" has nothing to do with assigning blame. It just defines an event/place where things kicked off into something way bigger. If WW3 started due to a strike on Taiwan it would be accurate to refer to Taiwan as a flashpoint, because the conflict in Taiwan would be the origin. I don't see how any of that takes away from China being the aggressor, or why the conflict would happen.

I get wanting to make it clear China is the problem here, I agree, but we have terms that refer to things objectively for a reason. You don't have to say everything at once with every sentence.

Maybe this is me being unaware of my own divergence, but that sounds pretty normal. We're attached to pattern as humans, and driving is one of those things you do subconsciously (or at least it's on the back burner in terms of direct focus) after a while. Makes sense you would conflate two super similar routes when you are essentially operating off muscle memory

I work for a neurologist practice, and the amount I have to argue with insurance (and inevitably have to get the neurologist on the phone to directly request something for many) is insane. A good chunk of my job isn't providing care, but arguing with insurance that the care is necessary. These companies are actively delaying patient care, and try to blame the physician whenever possible.

Wildly infuriating, especially when the denials are worded along the lines of "we reviewed this, and don't consider it medically necessary". Motherfucker, a doctor said it was necessary and listed the clinical reasons why this test or procedure would be beneficial. Nothing has radicalized me for universal healthcare more than working in healthcare.

Yeah, I'm 30 and I have way more recent embarrassing moments to keep me up at night. I'm not thinking of shit I did when I was a kid

"Thank you for waiting. The latest episode of Tonajan's version of One Punch Man will be updated on the 22nd. Please wait for a while."

A reminder that I'm not always able to get the chapter up right away (more on that in the other pinned thread), though I will try to be on top of it this week. Going forward feel free to post the chapter, and I will pin that shit. Otherwise I'll post a link as soon as I'm able!

(I see you person posting increasingly NSFW art. Careful Icarus...)

I usually wait for the translation, but just in case any of you guys are interested! I'll replace this pinned thread with the translated version as soon as I see it up.

Little slow on this one, but I got it! Enjoy!

Whats up?

I made a community and you guys were kind enough to show up. I don't expect this thing to take off in any major way, but I figure it'd be a good idea to kind of lay out what I'm planning here. That way we're on the same page, and I can hear feedback and ideas that anyone has regarding the community. All that can go here, in this thread.

I'm not the power-tripping type, and frankly I'm open to whatever. So fire away.

Anyway, the housekeeping.

Chapters

I typically catch chapters the day of release, and I'll try to be prompt about getting a link up here. Full disclosure, I am not at all involved in the translation. So, in that regard we are kind of at the whims of another team. This could change in the future, but that is the deal as of now. I'm open to throwing the untranslated chapters up as well. It's not something I check out, but if people here want it, no big deal.

Further, I can have a somewhat chaotic schedule and there are points where I will be tied up. If a release occurs during a particularly busy week I'll likely be late with the upload. In that case, I have no issue with someone else throwing up the chapter. I'm not going to go around deleting threads because I didn't get to post them. There's not a ton of people here, so I don't foresee us having an issue with a bunch of members posting the new chapter at once.

The Vibe

As a community we have to have some form of rules. I think. It's definitely a good idea either way. Currently, the all encompassing "stay chill" constitutes the whole of the law. In essence:

  • Don't be a dick

  • No racist/sexist/etc. shit (I will make fun of you)

  • Just enjoy a fun manga about a bald dude that punches real good.

The community is currently not marked NSFW. So, just...no overt porn, please. I don't want it dominating^(hot)^ the community, and I guarantee you there is a plethora of separate places to find and share your goods.

As for the look, I've forgone the banner at this point. Personally, I like the simple look with the simple Saitama. As with most things regarding the community, I'm open to change. Feel free to post some choices for a banner, and we'll figure out which we like best.

Third Act

Again, I welcome input here. Drop whatever thoughts you have below.

I'm happy to see a few people join, and love seeing the little bit of activity we've got so far. I'm hoping to build this into something just big enough to have a little discussion after a chapter drops and memes in between. If you can dig it, I hope you stick around.
