It's a Hamilton Beach "The Scoop" single serve coffeemaker! I wanted the stop using instant but getting a normal coffeemaker would result in me throwing most of it out since I only have one cup of coffee a day and only in the morning!

It works great so far!

I really like pour-overs. Just get a kettle and you're set.

The Waffle House mug goes crazy

[–] MrJameGumb 10 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I got that mug in like 2002! I was at a Waffle House I didn't normally go to and they had the older style mugs that were just way nicer than the cheap ones most places used. I asked the waitress if I could buy one from the restaurant and she said "honey, I break 10 of these a day, just don't let anyone see you take it" lol It still felt like stealing to me so I left a $10 tip which I will just assume was given back to the restaurant to purchase more mugs 😉

That $10 went straight to the fund for orphan teaspoons.

Is the reservoir over 20oz? That's usually my morning amount

[–] MrJameGumb 2 points 9 months ago

It says 14oz max in the instructions. Sorry dude 😔

What does it take to clean? I'm supremely lazy so I've been content with instant coffee where I just clean the mug, but if I can have superior coffee with just a bit more effort then I'm willing to buy in.

I highly recommend an Aeropress. The clean up is amazing. Half a turn to unscrew the bottom, give it a bit more of a press and the filter/grounds pop right off into whatever you want to put them. Quick rinse and wipe and your done.

No electricity, highly portable, just need a source of hot water

Sturdy mug you can press down on comfortably highly recommended

Interesting. It looks like it uses paper filters, which I'm looking to avoid, however thanks for the recommendation!

You can get metal filter inserts, which last a year or so.
Thats what i used before swapping to an espresso machine

[–] Jarix 1 points 9 months ago

Oh sweet i didnt know that. Ill have to check it out!

[–] MrJameGumb 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I had to run plain water through it when I first took it out of the box, and the directions say if it needs cleaning you just run white vinegar through it once every few months. I just run the reusable filter under the sink when I'm done making coffee

So, it doesn't need any lotion?

[–] MrJameGumb 1 points 9 months ago

I just can't deal with lotion or baskets until I've had my morning coffee...

Love your mug. Scattered smothered and covered please.

[–] Dagamant 2 points 9 months ago (2 children)

I have that same one, it didn’t have the lifter with it so if I use a mug it just splatters all over the place. I use my French press way more

[–] MrJameGumb 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

It didn't come with the lifter? Did you try checking with their customer service?

[–] Dagamant 2 points 9 months ago

no, its been a good while and I didnt know it was an option.

[–] Jarix 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Highly recommend trying an aeropress if you like your French press. If you just want one cup of coffee it's very convenient and easier clean up

[–] Dagamant 1 points 9 months ago

ill give it a look. my french press does 1 liter and my mug is half a liter so one press lasts til lunch.

The simple solution to your situation is pour over. It's almost free and uses little space.
