As if gender ideology is a thing. Its on the same line as saying people believe in "transgenderism". Its just being trans or gender non-conforming/genderqueer. These people think they even know what they are talking about when they haven't the slightest clue whatsoever.

"Gender ideology" is as real as the boogeyman is real. It's literally a conspiracy theory the right invented to scare themselves.

It's a thing but not in the way he means it. Trans acceptance and traditionalist views of gender are both gender ideologies. He's using the word ideology the way propagandists often do: describing an opposing view as an "ideology" to contrast it with his favored view, which he means to imply is simply The Truth™ and therefore above any ideological concerns.

Damn, someone should tell this guy about all the priests raping children, I feel like that's a pretty ugly danger too. I guess the intentional protection of those rapists is rather ugly as well...

What an absolute piece of shit.

The pope has some based takes, this is not one of them. Shows people can have some good opinions but still be awful.

There are a number of genocides going on right now, apparently that's not uglier then people saying gender is a social construct.

You run a pedophile ring sir. Get your priorities in order.

Aha, I knew that the other shoe would drop eventually. It’s still the Catholic Church, after all.

The Abrahmic religions whole deal was replacing pagan religions that were small groups controlled by women.

That's why they've always been obsessed with women being subservient.

They've always wanted large organized structures because that's easier to grift off of. If an Abrahamic religious leader is saying they aren't part of a larger organization, it's because they don't want anyone else getting a piece of it.

Imo a lot of the good stuff the pope's said in the past that he's gotten credit for from progressives should be looked at more from the angle of the head of a declining religion trying to get new converts, rather than him being genuinely progressive. Pope Francis got way too much leeway from leftists just because he managed to pass the incredibly low bar of just not being an overtly far right weirdo or a nazi collaborator (unlike some previous popes)

Reminder that Jorge Mario Bergoglio was a homophobic, misogynistic, right wing tool of a dictator, long before he became pope.

He's nothing but a PR figure with a fake script and a bunch of talking points that mean nothing. He's been a horrible person his whole life and has always been intolerant

I like how he thinks the people with "gender ideology" aren't the ones forcing people into a binary genders.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 9 months ago

This from the same pope who first allowed trans people to be baptised?

I have to say I'm a little shocked.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 months ago

So whats the context of the quote? It leads off with the same quote from the headline, then goes on to summarize the speech without ever mentioning the quoted line.

I'm sure its an egregious attack on modern ideology to shore up aging theological tradition... but without that context its basically a shock value headline stating "scary religion man said scary religion thing!"

Why do you post this here for trans people to see? What will this achieve exactly, outside of making our days a bit worse?

[–] phreekno 31 points 9 months ago (1 children)

i did not post this to make anyone's day worse but i understand that intention does not override impact. i only posted it because as a trans person, i want the community to be informed and aware. i truly am sorry if this activated negative feelings in you and affected your mental health.

as far as what it can and what i hope it achieves: discourse and rallying against political forces that are not going to go away with our inattention.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

Why not post an article that actually summarizes the whole context of the headline, then? Its never explained or conveyed in relation to the rest of the speech, just given as fact.

You're right, we should all hide our heads in the sand to spare feelings
